Congratulations to the newlyweds!
Kyle Viljoen may have had a drama-filled charter season on Below Deck Mediterranean, but at home, he’s got the tranquility and bliss of a happily married individual.
But the Bravolebrity and his husband, Dr. Zachary Riley, decided to keep their new under wraps for almost a year. Here’s why.
“A ceremony will come,” Kyle revealed
The Below Deck Med second stew finally spilled the beans on January 12 with an Instagram post from their wedding day. There are several pictures of Kyle and Zachary kissing outside City Hall, New York City.
“Yes, you saw that right. Almost a year of marriage before we spilled the beans!” Kyle began the caption for his post. “A day when two individual lives blended into one beautiful story. It may not be conventional or a typical love story but it’s ours.”
But the feeling of wanting an intricate celebration had the couple holding back broadcasting their happy news to family and friends.
“For months we kept it between just three of us (including their good friend and witness Marissa) because we didn’t feel this story was our vision of what our marriage would look like. We wanted something more grand, something more memorable, something more us,” Kyle explained.
But they came to decide “that a ceremony is not what makes the marriage.”
“It’s about the people around us,” the yachtie continued. “When we finally told our family and friends it was an emotional overload. The support and love they showed us was everything we could have asked for. Now it’s time to wipe the slate clean and share it with all of you.”
That doesn’t mean that Kyle and Zachary won’t plan a special celebration. The South African native concluded, “Yes, a ceremony will come. But as for now this is how we came to be Mr. and Mr. Viljoen-Riley!”
