RHOP’s Mia Thornton Shares Sexual Assault Past: ‘Couldn’t Get Out’

The January 14 episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac ended on a somber note. Karen Huger hosted an event for Promoting Awareness Victim Empowerment (PAVE), and the severity of this organization’s cause emotionally hit all the ladies.

And in one moment, Mia Thornton broke down and revealed a triggering past of her own. It was a vulnerable moment, that she shared with co-star Ashley Darby.

Mia calls herself a “f-ked up friend”

PAVE works to empower victims of sexual violence. As the luncheon progressed, a musical act took to the stage. Mia walked to the bathroom, after finding the moment “triggering.”

“It’s my coping mechanism to get the f–k out when s–t’s uncomfortable and, unfortunately, that day, I couldn’t get out,” she told Ashley, who came to check on her.

“It’s just, like, ‘Why didn’t you just leave? Why did you put yourself in that situation?’” Mia recalled.

RHOP friend to the cast, Jacqueline Blake, came up in the conversation. Gordon Thornton’s ex-wife explained her negative feelings towards Jacqueline, who she feels, “left her” with the aggressor.

Mia shares her truth

Then, Mia grew visibly more upset as she continued, “I know I’m a f–ked up friend to her because of it, and it’s not fair to her. She didn’t know that was going to happen to me. She trusted her boyfriend.”

The Bravolebrity said when the friends met the next day, Jacqueline was “so scared” and asked, “Mia, what happened to you?”

“Because Jacqueline did leave me that night and because of the sequence of events that happened once she left, I think over the years I’ve wanted to forgive her … when I look back, I probably have always been a little meaner to her because of it,” Mia explained.

In a confessional interview, the RHOP favorite admitted that she wants to rethink her approach to Jacqueline.

“That doesn’t make it right,” Mia admitted. “It’s just an emotional thing that I think a lot of people do. We don’t even realize it until we look back and see it.”

It was a very raw moment for Mia to open up in the manner that she did.
