Vanderpump Rules stars Katie Maloney and Ariana Madix have been trying to open their sandwich shop for quite a while. Something About Her has a great West Hollywood location, a definite vibe, and seemed to be rolling along quickly. Until it wasn’t.
The ladies dealt with having to remove their patio and a flurry of permit issues. They received a wave of backlash for selling Something About Her merch without an actual functioning business. Now the shop’s sign has been taken down, along with its cheery white and yellow awning because the opening is “on hold.”
Ariana and Katie spent a lot on their business
A source told The U.S. Sun that the location was a “dump” when the ladies took over the lease in September 2022. They have been paying the rent, which is “almost $8,000 a month,” even though they haven’t opened their doors. And according to the insider, the business partners have “spent nearly $1 million on the shop.” They are going to need to sell a ton of sandwiches.
Katie and Ariana decided to call in an expensive interior designer, Jon Hutman, to bring their vision of a cafe in Paris to fruition. “This whole Something About Her [concept], and the vision behind that, was wanting it to be romanticized lunch, à la rom-coms,” Katie explained. “I want to live in a Nancy Meyers movie. So when we were talking about what this place looks like and feels like, I’m like, ‘Well, who does Nancy Meyers’ movies?'”
Facing another interior re-do
After spending $300,000 on the interior, the space now needs new flooring. The insider stated that the floor is “not for open food use.” All the flooring has to be pulled up, along with all the furnishings.
“So now, all of a sudden, after spending $300,000 on a build-out, they have to redo everything. That is what is now going on,” the source claimed. “It’s a clusterf*ck. It’s a lot of back and forth with city officials.”
The insider continued, “Taking over this location has been bad luck from the beginning. It’s like it’s been jinxed because it’s always something new.”
Now that Season 11 of VPR is almost here, fans will be seeing Something About Her. But not in the way that they hoped. “The drama for next season is wild, but what’s even more shocking are all the issues Something About Her has been dealing with. Everything about what’s going on with the store is going to unfold this season and give fans the answers they’ve been seeking,” the source said.
Season 11 of Pump Rules had better deliver more than sandwich-less drama. Fans are hungry for a good season.
