The American Society of Anesthesiologists Calls Out Annemarie Wiley

Annemarie Wiley has been taken down a peg, this time by an entire association of medical professionals. A viewer almost has to feel bad for Annemarie. She probably didn’t expect her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills run to turn out like this.

Fans were skeptical of Annemarie right off the bat, as with any newcomer. But she did herself no favors when she began questioning Sutton Stracke about her esophagus issues in a way that felt condescending. When Annemarie told Sutton she had to chew her food more, that was the last straw for many.

She was called out by multiple medical professionals, including Bravo’s own Dr. Nicole Martin. Annemarie defended her actions by reminding everyone of her medical credentials as a nurse anesthetist. However, based on a new post from the American Society of Anesthesiologists, those credentials may have been misrepresented.

Annemarie exaggerated her medical experience

On January 18, The American Society of Anesthesiologists made an Instagram post charting the differences between anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists. A few notable differences include the fact that nurse anesthetists don’t have to complete medical school and only need 5-7 years of higher education as opposed to 12-14 years.

In the caption, the ASA wrote, “The Real Housewives know a fake. Anesthesiologists are medical doctors with more than 12 years of higher education and up to 16,000 hours of clinical training. Title misappropriation has no place in health care.”

An IG commenter explained for those out of the loop, saying Annemarie “presented herself as a doctor then corrected her actual title beyond that she has spent weeks medically gaslighting one of her co-workers and demonstrating what an unethical medical practitioner looks like. Her condescension and arrogance is entirely based on her being a nurse anesthetist.”

Notably, Annemarie did not call herself an anesthesiologist – not on camera at least. However, as per Bravo, Annemarie said during an RHOBH After Show, “A nurse anesthetist is an RN that practices anesthesia and an anesthesiologist is an MD that practices anesthesiology. So we do the same practice. We have the same scope of practice. We just get … two different paths.”

It would seem the ASA didn’t appreciate the comparison.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 13 continues Wednesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
