Association with Tom Sandoval, a year after his affair with Rachel Leviss was discovered, is still less than desirable. It’s been a difficult reckoning. He’s still a star on Vanderpump Rules, but the rest of the cast shunned him for a while. People went to Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras concerts just to mock his singing. And the restaurant he opened with Tom Schwartz, Schwartz & Sandy’s took a major financial hit.
And ultimately, Sandoval is now choosing to take a step back from his business. If for nothing then to potentially save it.
Sandoval is still financially involved
When news of Sandoval’s cheating on Ariana Madix broke, the public took their vengeance out on him by boycotting the eclectic lounge that he and Schwartz recently opened. The eatery was flooded with poor reviews, and diners stayed away. It was a dire situation for those involved, and most of them were not people with fame and fortune to absorb the shock.
“In light of the recent news we appreciate the many words of support but we also understand the outpouring of outrage that has been directed towards our businesses,” a post from March 2023 for the Schwartz & Sandy’s official Instagram account read. “However, those of us who are not famous have dedicated our time hearts and money to make this restaurant a reality.”
“We too are disappointed by the current situation as Ariana has always been a good friend and a great supporter of the restaurant,” the statement continued. “We appreciate that you may feel a certain way but please understand that the livelihoods of others also depend on this business. There are four more people involved in this venture other than just Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz.”
Is Sandoval out?
It was a very stark statement. But perhaps it did have an effect. Schwartz & Sandy’s is still open. Not only that, but matters are improving drastically, Schwartz revealed during a recent interview on The Viall Files podcast.
“There’s been a shift. Honestly, we got doxxed. I’m not here to throw a pity party but it sucks that this business — that I put my heart and soul into — and so many people put so much time and energy into came crashing down because of one person’s actions in their personal life. But we suffered dearly. We really did. People have been coming in, there’s been an outpouring of support lately and it’s been a nice change of pace,” he said.
As for Sandoval, he is keeping his financial stake in the restaurant but will not be a frontman anymore.
“He’s sort of taking a step back. He’s been mostly a silent partner,” Schwartz stated. “Yes, he is [still financially involved].”
