The subject of Ashley Darby’s divorce, or lack thereof, is dominating the conversation on The Real Housewives of Potomac. When the Bravolebrity announced her separation from Michael Darby in April 2022, a quick finale to their eight year marriage was expected.
However, though separated, Ashley and Michael are still married. Given the iron-clad prenup that denied Ashley any alimony, there is some understanding of her functioning from a state of financial security.
Yet her RHOP co-stars have, over multiple conversations, tried to get to the bottom of the psychology and practical matters of the decision. Some comments are more direct than others, which led Mia Thornton to make a shocking accusation during the most recent episode of The Real Housewives of Potomac.
Mia suggested that Ashley “be honest” with herself
During a cast dinner, Wendy Osefo and Nneka Ihim called Mia out for labeling Ashley a “gold digger.”
Mia pointed out the change in Ashley’s behavior from the beginning of her separation till now.
“Last year you were TikToking all around and you were like, ‘Yeah! Getting a divorce!'” she pointed out. “I think you’re not getting it right now because you married Michael for his money.”
Ashley responded by asking Mia if she also married Gordon Thornton for the same reason. Mia defended herself by claiming Gordon was “broke” when they met.
“I’m 100 percent completely honest with you guys,” Mia stated before suggesting to Ashley that she “should be honest with yourself.”
The mother-of-two got her real feelings out in a confessional interview. She stated, “I just think she’s jealous because Mia thought she was gold digging but she really got fool’s gold. Okay? My s— was real and authentic and she got some pyrite.”
Ashley then revealed what her estranged husband contributes to, financially.
“Michael and I both pay for the children so when it comes to their schooling, clothes all that stuff we both contribute to that,” she told producers. “I will say Michael does contribute to my car, at least for now.”
The former RHOP husband provided Ashley with a credit card for “emergencies,” though she doesn’t feel “comfortable using” it.
“We do have a joint account and that joint account I use for the children — even for the groceries I take out of that account… and Uber Eats,” she explained.
