The Traitors Season 2: MJ Javid Shares Behind the Scenes Secrets

I never watched the Shahs of Sunset, so I wasn’t familiar with MJ Javid when I started watching Season 2 of The Traitors. (I wish this was an audible article, so you could hear me roll my Rs like Alan Cumming every time I say “The Traitors.”)

MJ wants her fans to know that there’s more to her than viewers of Shahs have seen in the past. Though she was excited to show more of herself when she was invited to participate, being in Season 2 of The Traitors meant she had to leave her loved ones at home to do it.

In the most recent episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, MJ shared with host Alex Baskin about her experience in Scotland filming alongside other reality TV celebreties competing for the $250,000 prize. Joinging MJ was Erica Forstadt, who works behind the scenes on several Bravo shows, including Shahs.

The most disorienting thing about being on The Traitors was having everything “stripped away.” Production confiscated her phone during filming. MJ wasn’t allowed to call home. She wasn’t allowed to talk to her husband, Tommy Feight. It was very hard not to be able to “vent” about things she was going through on the show. It must have been especially hard for her to be away from her two-year-old son Shams for that period of time without being able to talk to him on the phone.

The downtimes during filming were also difficult. “[You’re] alone with your thoughts for hours and hours, [and] you can trust no one,” the Tehran native shared. It must have felt very isolating.

MJ has a theory about The Traitors

MJ also discussed her “theory” regarding her Shahs co-star Reza Farahan’s Season 1 appearance on The Traitors. “Murdered” in the first episode, MJ blames Reza’s quick departure on his “alpha/domineering” personality.

“He was bossy,” MJ said. “Dominating didn’t seem like the way to enter a big group of strangers, of 20 people … I was heartbroken that he was released so quickly, because I know just to get to Scotland is a lot. What we have to go through … like, we have to go through a lot of hoops to make sure that we are able to do it mentally [and] physically … I just thought it was almost like a rule that they should change about Traitors, that you can’t murder anyone that soon.”

“If someone comes off like they’re too alpha,” MJ shared, “that can get you cut because people will be intimidated.”

The Traitors airs on Thursdays at 9 ET on Peacock.
