No one has thought much of the beta on Vanderpump Rules, but at times, Tom Schwartz has been quite the character. He started the series as the boyfriend and eventually, thanks to his bromance with Tom Sandoval, was able to be brought on as a full-time cast member. For years, he acted as a sidekick, showing up in sidecars and taking a back seat to everything Sandy did. But Schwartz seemed okay with his place in life and enjoyed rarely sticking up for himself.
But there were times Schwartz held his own. Perhaps my favorite moment was during Season 4 when he sat down with Stassi Schroeder to talk about why she walked away from her friendship with Katie Maloney. Tom was not only protective, but he also made valid points. I’m not sure where this version of Tom went, but below are some of his crazier antics that still kept us laughing.
Tom Can’t Hold His Liquor
During his early years on Vanderpump Rules, Tom became infamous for throwing his well-mixed drink on the ladies of the group. Tom didn’t discriminate since both his ex-wife and her friend were drenched. Everyone knows Stassi takes her birthday very seriously, and Tom had enough one night. Tequila Katie was wasted, and in the middle of a Mexican club, Tom finally stood up to her. The TomTom owner called Katie a “bully” as she replied, “You do not understand the way you make me feel.”
After not being able to get a word in edge-wise, he told Katie to “fu*k off” and poured his libation all over her. Needless to say, that did not calm her down. Even though Tom immediately knew he had done wrong, Katie noted, “I’ve been very judicious about my drinking.” I think it was safe to assume the relationship was never going to work.
Ken Era
I swear Tom must have been singing “I’m just Ken” when he poured the bottle of peroxide on hishead. The mid-life crisis move shocked fans. It also left them them thinking he looked more like a dad-bod Ken than anything else. The hair makeover came just two months before his 41st birthday. Even though he thought he was finishing the summer strong, the hairdo really just screamed that Tom probably needed a legit friend to talk to. Thankfully, he is back to his brunette look, and not a minute too soon.
The Proposal
Schwartz and Sandy have always been thick as thieves. So it made sense he told his BFF about his plans to go down on one knee. Even though Sandy was in no way behind the union, he listened like a good friend should as Tom shared his well thought plan, saying he needed to give Katie a minute to say ‘I do’ laughing as he toyed with saying, “Bada bing. Bada Boom. I love you.” What a romantic dude, right? This moment wasn’t exactly one of his most outlandish, but it was definitely crazy he thought he was in a place to get married.
Don’t Be Afraid
One night after Scandoval broke, Tom took to the internet to share that he was “scared” of the internet. The video was hilarious, as Tom wore sunglasses and held the camera at an angle that made him look like a hostage of reality TV. He told viewers, “Guys, I’m scared of you. Okay, I’m scared. You guys are scary,” in a whisper tone.
Grandpa vs. Grandpa
The boys of Vanderpump Rules were known to enjoy a night out on the town. It often included going out in costume. The two Toms were in a bit of a tiff while dressed as OAPs, and the scene was not missed by fans. Between the angry words, prosthetic noses, and beards, viewers were stopped from taking this conversation seriously. Both failed to communicate with Schwartz, noting, “I have a different skill set!” Honestly, the only skill these two had was the ability to be fun. It’s most likely why Lisa Vanderpump crafted a bar around these loons.
