Even though semi-sweet Brittany Cartwright hailed from Kentucky she wasn’t just a Hooters employee. The mother of one often tried to push a facade that she was air between the ears, but fans of Vanderpump Rules knew better. Whether or not she carefully plotted her meet-up in Las Vegas with Jax Taylor is still up for debate.
Poor Choice of Wedding Pastor
Brittany grew up right in the Bible Belt in Winchester, KY. After meeting and falling for Jax, the two began planning their perfect ceremony. While weddings can be stressful, that doesn’t mean you hire your childhood pastor who is homophobic to ordain on the day. Season 8 showed backlash as the pastor was revealed to be in a scandal of his own. Buzzfeed revealed that Ryan Dotson and his ministry had spoken out against the legalization of gay marriage, transgender pastors, and abortion.
Brittany didn’t handle the backlash all too well as she rolled her eyes and spoke out on Watch What Happens Live, sharing she spoke with the pastor one-on-one and had “known him for years.” She also noted that he “promised” her that the comments were not his views, saying, “He promised me that he was not that way and he was not saying anything about the community whatsoever.” The pastor was still in the lead for officiating at this point.
Brittany Doubled Down
As the article gained more traction, more and more fans became upset at the lack of accountability. Finally, Brittany took it upon herself to clap back at one Twitter user. She wrote, “We already took care of this. So I would appreciate it if people would quit trying to spread rumors like we don’t care and aren’t supporters when you guys have no clue how we feel or the fact that we have already changed. I’m focused on marrying the man I love. Nothing else.” That same day, it was revealed that the pastor was out and NSYNC’s Lance Bass was in. So weird!
Faith Accused Brittany of a Racist Comment
Brittany and Faith Stowers are no strangers to one another, but the former cast member refuses to hold back on her interactions with the Kentucky native. Faith once claimed that she overheard Britt make a racially-charged comment when she tried to apologize about the affair with Jax.
Faith revealed that Brittany raged, allegedly saying, “I’m still trying to stay calm and communicate with her because this is still important for me to hear what she has to say. So I’m trying to talk to her, and I can still see that she’s upset. And while she’s yelling, that’s when I heard her say, ‘You a nappy-headed ho!’”
Brittany Shared Misinformation
I am starting to think it is a little-known fact that when the incredibly tragic Sandy Hook shooting occurred, Brittany shared fake news that it was a hoax. Brittany never acknowledged her tweets and tried to scrub it from her social media but a quick Google search finds everything. She should apologize, and I am surprised Bravo risked putting her on another series.
In recent months and years, Brittany has shown a real willingness to put the past behind her and learn from her mistakes. We’re hopeful that this change is a lasting one.
