Season 8 of The Real Housewives of Potomac has left much to be desired. It seems like since cameras stopped rolling, things have gotten more eventful for some of the ladies. We did see Mia Thornton touch on the marriage and money troubles that she and her husband, Gordon “G” Thornton, were having, as well as an attempt to work things out by attending therapy together.
However, once filming ended, Mia and G split. Now, she’s sharing the exact straw that broke the big-footed camel’s back.
Mia filed for divorce after Gordon “publicly decided to shame” her
Mia, 39, discussed her divorce with Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast. “My breaking point was when he publicly decided to shame me.” Gordon, 71, made disparaging remarks about her to the press. The two had separated in June 2023 and waited until September to make their split public.
“I said, ‘OK, this is not what we’re doing.’ And I filed. Yeah, I did because I’m like, ‘Let’s go ahead and get this clock rolling,’” she added. “I just don’t want to be a part of it.”
G gave an interview to TMZ in October 2023, revealing that he had allowed Mia to sleep with other men.
“I know there’s going to come a time when I probably won’t be able to satisfy all of her needs,” he stated.
G also mentioned that he gave Mia permission to “find what [she] need[ed] elsewhere,” and expressed frustration about her decision to leave their 11-year marriage.
“What really aggravates me through all of this, is that I’d given her permission, and yet she still chooses to sneak around, chooses to lie, chooses to continually change her story about what’s going on and why she’s leaving me,” he said.
Mia was upset by G’s comments but stresses she would “never publicly shame” him because of their children. They share an eight-year-old son, Jeremiah and a six-year-old daughter, Juliana. Mia also has a teenage son, Joshua, from a previous relationship.
“I’m trying to reel him in, and we need to work together as a family. We have these beautiful babies that we’re raising, and being a mom is No. 1 for me. And I’m very proud to hold that title of being Supermom. And we have happy kids. I want them to stay happy.”
Mia and Gordon are co-parenting, and she’s moved on
Mia’s currently dating radio DJ Incognito. She says she and G have established a healthy co-parenting dynamic.
“I told him, ‘Hey, if you don’t get with the program, then you’re going to put me in a position to where you’re not going to see your kids.’”
Mia noted that G quickly “got with the program.” Now, he frequently joins her and their children on outings with Incognito.
She didn’t make mention of G’s money also drying up, but I think we can all assume that certainly didn’t help!
