Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to a love connection on Vanderpump Rules. Since 2013, the group of SURvers have been hooking up quite incestually with their small group of friends. The newest season shows Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz, who are happily divorced, fighting for the attention of the same woman. Scheana Shay’s 25-year-old nanny, Tori Keeth. I can’t kick the feeling that the love triangle is weird!
This storyline feels gross
Again, I say that this love triangle is giving me the heebie jeebies. Remember when we all started dating in the seventh grade, and some of us had kind of the same boyfriend? We thought, ‘Wow, this is great.’ Since we were all friends, we could always be together. But in real life, as adults, we know this kind of setup just doesn’t work. This kind of love triangle drama is trashy, even for Vanderpump Rules.
Tom is 41, and Katie is 36. I don’t know a lot about Tori, but how did she go from the nanny to the love interest? Bravo could be trying to give the show some new blood, but this doesn’t feel like the way to do it. In my opinion, Katie has had a major glow-up since her divorce from Tom; there had to be another storyline for her.
Katie saw Tori first
According to the Something About Her owner, she pursued Tori before anything was happening with Tom. However, the optics being pushed by Bravo make it look like the love triangle was headed for a threesome. When asked by a producer on the After Show if she knew Tom was also dating Tori, the former server answered, “Ariana can vouch for this. I truly did not know that she had talked to Tom or anything like that. I was like, ‘Whatever.'”
It turns out that Katie had been flirting with Tori multiple times. According to Ariana Madix, there was a time at SUR and a time before that when Tori confessed to the Single AF Cocktails author that she had been chatting to Katie. According to Ariana, the nanny admitted, “I think I like Katie. And I was like, ‘You should talk to her.'”
Tom’s role
So, how did Tom suddenly slide into the picture as an option, especially after his Ken makeover? According to Scheana, Tori has had a crush on the former model for years. The mother of one revealed, “Like, right after he got divorced, Tori was like, ‘Hey, I heard Schwartz is single!’ and I was like, ‘Err…'” Scheana revealed that “The age gap for me, I was like, it’s a little too much.”
It hasn’t gone unnoticed that the only girls the Toms hang out with are in their mid-20s. But the episode didn’t look like they had a lot in common except drinking. Tom also agreed that Katie’s actions were “weird,” stating, “In 2018, we just bought a home together, we’re married, we’re happy as f-ck — you know, more or less — but now it’s like we’re vying for the same chick.”
Did Katie cockblock Tom?
Katie wasn’t going to apologize for going after a relationship she wanted. She sarcastically told producers, “My life revolves around Tom Schwartz. Everything I do is for that man and because of that man, literally. I eat, sleep, and breathe, Tom Schwartz. I can’t make a single decision until I figure out if it has anything to do with Tom Schwartz. Would Tom Schwartz sleep with this person? Is he sleeping with this person? I need to know before I make a decision.”
But do I think Katie felt a small sense of satisfaction when she realized she might be winning Tori over Tom; yes. If I had to make an educated guess, I don’t think Katie actively tried to get back at her ex. Also, I find it hard to believe that Katie would be interested in anyone who liked Schwartz. Considering her disdain for him, I would assume anyone who genuinely liked him would get an “Ew. Why?” answer from her.
