On the new show, Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, a fabulous circle of people have let the reality TV cameras into their luxury lives in the Caribbean. It’s a mix of people who are native to Grand Cayman and who moved there for everything the island has to offer. In particular, the show stars Elizabeth Chambers, who has been living on the island with the kids she shares with disgraced actor Armie Hammer.
Although Elizabeth’s history with Armie is a clear selling point for this show, Elizabeth isn’t interested in badmouthing her ex. In an interview with Us Weekly, she vowed that she wouldn’t “speak negatively” about him on the show. As much as we’d love to hear her drag him, she explained a pretty valid reason for going easy on the father of her kids.
Taking the high road
Armie and Elizabeth share two children, who are both under 10. When reflecting on the new show and her high-profile divorce, Elizabeth said that her main goal is to protect their little ones. Some days that’s probably harder than others, but Elizabeth vowed to “fiercely” protect them from their father’s controversies.
Elizabeth explained, “They have no idea about what is going on. My kids are blissfully happy. They should think that their dad is a superhero, and to be fair, he has been that to them. He has been the best he could be.”
According to Elizbeth, she won’t be talking “negatively” about Armie because she doesn’t want her kids to have “daddy issues.” It’s a respectable choice, but it makes you wonder why she would choose to do reality TV. In the interview, Elizabeth explained that she chose to participate in the show specifically to market her business. She wants all of the good things out of reality TV while trying to keep her kids away from the circus.
Obviously, Elizabeth’s mission of protecting her kids and avoiding the Armie subject has already proven to be a tricky one. On Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, cast member Courtney McTaggart, talked about how cyberbullies accused her of being with Armie before he divorced. Then, at the end of the premiere episode, the cast read Armie’s tell-all interview with Air Mail.
“You are not going to believe what I just read. Armie Hammer just broke his silence. In this article, Elizabeth looks like a psycho,” Courtney said in the episode. “It is talking about how Elizabeth has these fake emails to harass people. It is all in here.”
It’s going to take some real mental gymnastics for Elizabeth to get through this whole season without saying anything negative about her ex. We wish her the best of luck.
