The Traitors has taken the reality TV world by storm. And not just the general reality TV viewing audience, but plenty of A-listers too. The formula is simple. When you boil it down, it’s a classic game of mafia/werewolf. Throw in some extra challenges for the players to earn money, and boom. The majority of the contestants are faithfuls with a few traitors in the mix.
Both on paper and in practice, The Traitors delivers the action, drama, trials, and triumph that any good reality competition should. But while The Traitors U.S. might be a hit today, the American version was met with controversy upon release.
Viewers of the show’s previous installments thought that adding already-established names to the mix ruined the concept of building trust off a tabula rosa. So, what would happen if every competitor was an already established name? Well, fans may get to find out in about a year.
Will Courteney Cox appear on The Celebrity Traitors?
On April 18, Deadline reported that the BBC has a celebrity version of The Traitors in the works for the near future. The report suggested that this version of the show would launch next year. Sources say that the BBC is close to striking a deal with Studio Lambert, the production company responsible for The Traitors UK and U.S.
Claudia Winkleman, host of the UK version, is expected to host the celebrity version as well. BBC reportedly has high hopes for potential cast members since the show has many high-profile fans. Deadline noted that Friends’ own Courteney Cox appeared in a casting call video for the UK version back in April 2023.
The latest version of the show shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. As Deadline also reported recently, The Traitors became the format with the most new global sales last year, passing The Masked Singer. With the show’s growing popularity, fans might expect further adaptations soon.
