Mike Shay was first introduced to Vanderpump Rules fans as Scheana Shay’s Good as Gold ex-boyfriend, fiance, and husband. He made multiple appearances on the series until his 2016 Season 5 departure. The two young lovebirds always seemed to be on the same page, with Mike often being the backbone of support the young SURver needed. For seven years, fans have been without Mike on their screens, leading most of us to wonder what he has been up to.

The break up

Scheana and Mike were high school sweethearts who decided to tie the knot in 2014. Mike planned an elaborate proposal at Lisa Vanderpump’s Villa Rosa. The couple tied the knot in July 2014, complete with the crop top wedding dress. During Season 5, viewers of Vanderpump Rules were able to see the couple drift apart. Scheana started to fall out of love with Mike as he tried to overcome his issues with substance abuse. At the time fans also were told that Mike withdrew money from their bank accounts without his wife’s knowledge. Their divorce was finalized in November 2016.

Mike has a passion for music

Like his ex-wife, Mike has also found a creative space within the music industry. His X handle lists him as a “rapper/producer/DJ.” Mike is almost a ghost on social media since he hasn’t posted on X since 2019, pre-pandemic times. However, he has been linked to Hyro the Hero, an American rapper. Mike also has his own music.

After searching SoundCloud, I came across a couple of songs by Mike, which were not amazing, but some of the lines were pretty funny. On Bye Felicia, he raps, “She’s really good at sex, so I keep her on my roster. Whose next? I used to pull hoes like Mr. Jax Taylor.” The songs are six years old, but he isn’t afraid to talk about his Vanderpump Rules connections.

Mike is a family man

Fans often see that Mike loves to hang around his family. He often posts updates of his niece, Aubrey, and his nephews on Instagram. Whether attending Saturday soccer or holiday celebrations, it looks like Mike is still very close with his entire family. Mike has posted about Aubrey multiple times and even gave a shout-out in 2022 to his newest nephew, James Thomas Shay. It looks like Mike is just one proud uncle, which is sweet to see.

He also didn’t forget to post about his older nephews, Adam and Aiden, who recently finished the seventh grade, and Derek Shay, who graduated from high school in 2022. The music producer shared a photo from his brother Zach’s engagement party in 2022, where he posed with his mother, father, and siblings.

Do Mike and Scheana still talk?

Seven years after their split it seemed like Scheana and Mike still had the occasional conversation. During a 2020 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Scheana shared that she had recently been in contact with Mike. As fans know, their split wasn’t the easiest, but according to Scheana, her ex-husband was “doing okay. I mean, I think he’s still kind of finding himself, but he’s happy, and he’s doing well.”

But as of 2023, Scheana revealed via BravoTV, “I haven’t talked to him much. We spoke a bit last year — his mom sadly passed away, and I just was checking in on him a lot. I usually text him every year on his birthday.” The mother of one also revealed she tried to reach out a couple of times a year, but Mike never initiated. Scheana lamented “I think when I got into my relationship with Brock and then he saw, you know, I now have a child, he’s respected that boundary. And he doesn’t really reach out, but I still do to check in and just make sure he’s doing OK. I mean, he’s someone I’ve known since I was 15.”
