After Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist called it quits, we’ve been closely following all of the theories about the Golden Bachelor breakup. Was it really their long-distance arrangement and not being able to decide where to live? Or, was it all just made up for reality TV? Well, Bachelor alum Ben Higgins shared a wild theory of his own during a recent podcast episode, and it’s so odd that it just might be true.
Ben hosts a podcast called Almost Famous, along with Ashley Iaconetti from Bachelor Nation fame. According to Ben, a little birdie told him how Theresa and Gerry stopped seeing eye-to-eye. He called this a “rumor of a generalization of a conversation that Gerry and Theresa had.”
Blame it on the cornfields
Allegedly, the relationship all started going downhill when Theresa traveled to Gerry’s home state of Indiana. He picked her up from the airport, and they drove two hours back to his lakehouse. During that drive, Theresa felt taken aback by the vast amount of farmland in the Hoosier State. It’s a lot of cornfields, and Theresa had a hard time wrapping her head around that concept.
She reportedly looked around and said, “Wow, look at all this beautiful untouched land.”
From there, she suggested that the “untouched” farmland be used for condos and office buildings. At one point, she saw a lake surrounded by cornfields and imagined a potential resort. It doesn’t take an agricultural expert to know that this is not a wise suggestion, and according to Ben, Gerry got annoyed. He replied to Theresa and said, “You don’t take land from a farmer.”
Ben explained, “This was a big start to them disagreeing on how they saw the world, and what they imagined for the world, and how they wanted to invest into the world.”
Of course, this is all hearsay, but let’s pretend this conversation actually did happen. It really could explain why Theresa and Gerry had a hard time agreeing on where to live. If Theresa couldn’t drive past a cornfield without fantasizing about turning it into a strip mall, there’s no way they could agree on living in Indiana.
