Singing, dancing, acting — Wayne Brady can do it all. Now, he’s adding “reality TV” to his ever-expanding resume. He just announced that he and his family are launching a reality show called Wayne Brady: The Family Remix. In the show, he promises to turn the term “modern family” on its head as the cameras follow the ups and downs of his blended family.
People reported all of the details of the new series, which will air on Freeform this summer. In a synopsis for the show, they teased that Wayne would show the “realities of an unexpected life.” So, if you’re not familiar with Wayne’s personal life, let’s get you caught up.
Wayne Brady: The Family Remix is coming to Freeform
Wayne used to be married to a woman named Mandie Taketa. They share a 21-year-old daughter, Maile Brady. After divorcing in 2006, Wayne and Mandie have remained extremely close, and they have prioritized co-parenting their daughter. Last year, Wayne came out as pansexual.
Meanwhile, Mandie moved on with a man named Jason Fordham. Mandie and Jason share a 3-year-old son. Wayne, Mandie, and Jason are all involved in each other’s lives. They all work together because Wayne and Mandie own a production company, A Wayne & Mandie Creative. Jason is a cinematographer for their company, and he also used to be a backup dancer for Wayne.
Obviously, at first glance, the whole thing sounds like they’re in a throuple. That’s not necessarily the case, and they know the optics are a little strange for most people. Wayne Brady: The Family Remix aims to normalize their situation.
“With Brady at a sudden crossroads in his life, Wayne Brady: The Family Remix offers an intimate look into his blended family’s personal life, revealing unexpected points of view and values that most people (including his own family) have a hard time understanding,” the synopsis said.
It continued, “People see their social media posts — from vacations to dancing in TikToks — but what’s behind the joyful 15 seconds of fun? Their real life is not always as easy and as simple as it seems.”
Wayne Brady: The Family Remix is the latest in Freeform’s attempt at jumping into the reality TV genre. Previously, they made headlines for Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, starring Armie Hammer’s ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers. The Wayne Brady show seems a lot less salacious in comparison, but it should still be interesting to see Wayne living his authentic life with his blended family.
Wayne Brady: The Family Remix premieres on Freeform on July 24, at 10/9c. You can stream it the next day on Hulu.
