The Chrisleys still aren’t having their way. The Chrisley Knows Best stars have been holding on for dear life for the last few years. Todd and Julie Chrisley were convicted on multiple counts of fraud after a lengthy legal battle. The married couple turned themselves into federal prison in January 2023. Since then, they’ve worked with their daughter, Savannah Chrisley, to try and get them out. They’re filing appeals and spreading awareness about their treatment behind bars. But as that’s playing out in court, another order was made for the pair to turn over nearly $30,000 they had stowed away in a trust fund.
Chrisley’s gotta give up that money
According to WSBTV, Todd and Julie have to turn over $30,000 they had in an IOLTA trust account. The acronym stands for “Interest on Lawyer Trust Account,” and they’re common in cases like this. Typically, you’d have them for retainer fees, settlements, and court-awarded damages.
The legal documents stated the family had $29,932.23 in the account. Unfortunately for them, all of it must be used toward their $17 million judgment.
Savannah has been open about her parents’ case, saying she hopes the appeal process works in their favor. In April 2024, she said she’s trying to “stay as positive” as she can given the circumstances. “I try to educate myself. It’s just so hard knowing that it could not go in our direction,” she explained. “That’s a tough pill to swallow.”
If their appeal is unsuccessful, Savannah noted the family has “other avenues to take.”
“Once again, like, super grateful for that,” she said. “… there are other avenues due to how our trial played out that we could take to get a new trial or to, you know, just hopefully get them out early.”
