Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard Officially on Pause After Season 2

Another one bites the dust. After two seasons of highlighting young Black professionals in a historic locale, Bravo has decided to pull the plug on Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard. Talk about a summer bummer.

The news arrived via Deadline just days after Season 2 wrapped. According to the outlet, the show is “on pause” rather than canceled. We’re not new to this, so we know that “on pause” is usually Bravo’s nice way of saying, “The show is over, and you’re all fired.” On Twitter, Bria Fleming (and Milo) reacted to the frustrating news.

Goodbye for now, Martha’s Vineyard

“Yes, the rumors are true. Our show, Summer House Martha’s Vineyard, has been put on pause,” Bria wrote. “While it is disappointing to see this happen, we believe it will inspire us to explore new directions in our careers, personal lives, and businesses.”

The news is particularly disappointing for fans because it seemed like the cast was just getting into their groove. In the Season 2 reunion, we saw some real conflict unfolding between Jasmine Ellis Cooper and the people she assumed were her friends. Plus, Amir Lancaster’s girlfriend caused all sorts of chaos when she tried to get involved in the “handsy” drama with Nick Arrington.

Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard is the second Summer House spinoff to get the axe. Bravo also pressed pause on Winter House after Season 3, despite it bringing in a hodgepodge of Bravolebrities from across the network. Now, the original Summer House is the last one standing, and they just got greenlit for Season 9.

Of course, some “on pause” programs have returned, like Real Housewives of Miami. That only took eight years. Meanwhile, other Black-led shows like Southern Charm: New Orleans and Married to Medicine: Los Angeles have remained on an indefinite hiatus for years, and the likelihood of them returning is slim to none.

Here’s to hoping that Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard can return for another edition later down the road. We need to see more shenanigans with Bria and Milo. We need more Preston Mitchum and his fashions. We’re just not ready to say goodbye to the Vineyard, but clearly, Bravo has other plans.
