Alex Baskin Says The Valley Cast Is ‘Full Right Now’

Following the conclusion of the three-part Vanderpump Rules Season 11, fans are wondering where we go from here. Is it finished? Will the focus shift to spinoff The Valley? Will any of the VPR cast move shows? Alex Baskin has given his thoughts on The Valley cast.

Pump Rules is “on hiatus” for the summer to allow the group a breather from the intensity of the show. Though, in some ways, the reunion felt like a chapter closing, no official announcement has been released about either a renewal or a cancellation.

While we wait to discover the fate of Pump Rules, showrunner Alex sat down to field questions about both VPR and its spinoff, The Valley.

Alex thinks The Valley’s cast is fine as it is

Before The Valley even premiered, VPR alums Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright announced their separation. Though production on the new series had finished filming at that time, cameras fired back up, and a new trailer was produced. Baskin told The Hollywood Reporter that he just took it all in stride.

“I’ve been more surprised before,” he laughed. “We saw their strain over production … I was more surprised by the timing of it because I thought they would have made it through the show’s premiere or even the entire season. But I think they just simply couldn’t, because the tension was too great. It all sort of burst open when it did.”

Even though the breakup was similar in some ways to that of VPR’s Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix, the interviewer wondered if they’d continue to be able to film together or if their animosity for each other would prevent that.

“[Jax and Brittany’s situation] is a little different,” Baskin responded. “Ariana and Tom were so extreme. She had cut him out of her life, apart from the fact that … they lived together. It’s very different for Jax and Brittany because, among other things, they share a child. So they are still in each other’s lives, and they still have the same friend group … They are more connected, whether they like it or not.”

Aside from their child, Jax and Brittany still have businesses together, including Jax’s Studio City sports bar and their podcast, When Reality Hits with Jax and Brittany. When they initially split, they hoped to be able to continue working together. But that might be difficult when Britt’s now saying she “can’t stand to be in the same room” as Jax.

Future plans for The Valley

When asked about future plans for The Valley, Alex shrugged off the possibility of bringing over any more Pump Rules alums. “I know there’s a ton of speculation about [Vanderpump] transfers over to The Valley, but that cast is pretty full right now.” he admitted. “I would imagine you’ll continue to see crossovers like you have, but … it’s not like we’re in need of additional cast members.”

“Between Jax and Brittany, Jesse and Michelle, and a whole bunch of other developments,” he added, “we really have a great focus for that show, and we’re exciting about running that back because, God knows, if we had cameras up right now there would be a ton to cover, and there will be when we do.”

The Valley continues Tuesdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
