Teresa Giudice is once again defending her time in jail, despite pleading guilty to bank, mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud in 2014. In the first episode of her new podcast, Turning the Tables, she immediately talked about the time she served. Teresa was released from prison after serving 11 months of a 15-month sentence. While she was let out of jail almost a decade ago, she still pleads her innocence. Not sure that’s how pleading guilty works, but here goes…
Teresa says she knows in her “heart” she “did not commit a crime” despite being in jail for 11 months
“I think a lot of us wives out there do sign papers that our husbands tell us to sign,” Teresa starts. It’s true that some others in the public eye have admitted to doing the same thing. But still, this feels different, no matter how slimy Joe Giudice appeared to be throughout the years.
“So, I went to a closing with my husband, I signed on the dotted line for a mortgage – with the lawyer there and everything – and that was it,” the Real Housewives of New Jersey OG explained.
“Then, I would say 10 years later, when I was on a TV show, the government came knocking on our door regarding taxes and then started looking into everything. I got charged for mortgage fraud. And the thing is, I know in my heart I did not commit a crime, but I did what I had to do. I did my time and I took it like a champ.”
These comments come just a few months after Teresa responded to a question suggesting she blamed “everyone else for everything.” While claiming she in fact, does not do this, she added that she’s “not a criminal.”
This just isn’t true. She entered a guilty plea for fraud, and she was convicted. A deal was struck with federal prosecutors. Teresa is a convicted criminal, who served time in jail. Those are just the facts, no matter which side of the ongoing RHONJ chaos you fall on.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey continues Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.
