Daisy Kelliher’s Sister Bonnie Speaks Out After Moped Accident

The Below Deck series glorified the life of working and traveling abroad. But unfortunate realities sometimes occur, whereby serious medical attention is needed in a foreign country.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher’s sister recently had a serious moped accident while in Thailand. Thanks to Bonnie Kelliher’s quick-thinking friend, she avoided more serious issues. However, Bonnie is still in the hospital and will have a long road to recovery.

Daisy flew to Thailand to be at her sister’s side, and the two shared some updates and sweet moments during an Instagram Q & A together.

Bonnie flew to Thailand to “support” Bonnie

On June 19, Daisy announced on Instagram that her sister “had several surgeries including her chest, face and brain, and two emergency surgeries.”

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht star updated fans a few days later. The date of June 23 coincided with Bonnie’s birthday.

Daisy wrote, “I arrived last night to Koh Samuai to support her and help my parents as it’s been quite an ordeal for them. I am sat by her side on her 34th birthday, with the extent of her injuries it’s quite a miracle she’s alive and we all feel optimistic and positive with time she will make a full recovery.”

“The only reason I am sharing this information (with my [family’s] permission) is to promote a few things. For anyone who might see this who is going on holiday or traveling or anything like this. Please don’t get on the moped and if you do wear a helmet and have insurance (no helmet, no insurance),” she continued. “My family [has] seen several people over the weeks be admitted and not all have been as lucky as Bonnie.”

Daisy then spoke in appreciation of Bonnie’s friend, who informed the family of her accident.

“If it wasn’t for her things could have been different. She was so fast-acting and a huge support to my family,” she wrote. “So always always check on your friends.”

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht chief stew also praised the facility that is providing Bonnie care.

“Bonnie is in a fantastic hospital and the staff [has] been incredible,” she shared. “There’s a long road to recovery but we have had so much support. We hope [that] by sharing this story it may save a life or save another person or family having to go through this. We can’t quite believe how close we were to losing her. DO NOT GET ON THE [BIKE] and if you do WEAR A HELMET [and] have TRAVEL INSURANCE. We love you, Bonnie, happy birthday.”

Bonnie is “still waiting to find out what happened”

Finally, the sisters shared an Instagram Q&A to update fans. Daisy made it to her sister’s bedside, and they streamed from Bonnie’s hospital room in Thailand.

“Bonnie broke half her body, but didn’t break her mouth,” she quipped.

“My mouth is really sore, actually,” Bonnie said.

After Daisy asked if she’s had stitches in her mouth, Bonnie joked, “I actually don’t know what I’ve had done. I’m still waiting to find out what happened.”

What was confirmed by the doctor is that Bonnie has “12 broken ribs.” Her head was shaved due to an injury to her skull.

One thing is clear, the energy and personality Bonnie brought to her visit on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 is apparent in her now, despite her accident.
