Hannah Berner is a Brooklyn native who shook up Summer House when she debuted in Season 3. The former semi-pro tennis player was a brunette with questionable style and a mean backswing. She won fans over with her blunt assessment of most of the roommates. However, along the way, she began to feel inauthentic and left after Season 5. Hannah’s big storyline was her romance with Luke Gulbranson. The two heavily flirted, and it looked like the start of something new was about to come. Next thing fans knew, Hannah was dating Des Bishop and having sex in Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula’s bathroom. Needless to say, her departure burnt a few bridges.

Funny girl

Hannah hasn’t receded into the shadows after leaving reality TV. In fact, she dove head-first into her comedy career and did pretty damn well for herself. Hannah has been touring across the country with her I’m On Tour tour, which has gotten mixed reviews. Most comics write about their life experience, and while tennis isn’t funny, Hannah has some humorous lines. However, some don’t find her sex jokes funny, so the jury is still out on her stand-up live tour.

I was taken aback when Netflix announced Hannah’s comedy special, We Ride At Dawn. The special will drop on July 9 and stream exclusively on Netflix. According to Deadline, We Ride At Dawn will be an hour-long event. The show was filmed in The Fillmore in Philadelphia, PA, in March. The former Summer House star shared she is “so excited to finally be able to air my hour to the world.” According to the 32-year-old, “This show encompasses different phases of my life, my mental health, my love life, pop culture, and even some politics.” She shared, “I like to make people question norms and make fun of everything, especially myself.”

What’s in a name?

The comedy series’ name is quite eccentric. Hannah explained she came up with the name “because of the incredible community that has supported me since I started stand-up. I love empowering them and helping them forget their problems for at least an hour.” Hannah isn’t just a pretty face; she is also the executive producer alongside Kyle Kazanjian-Amory, Marissa Gallant, Brett Kushner for Don’t Tell Comedy and producer Ryan Polito.

Hannah has had plenty of practice selling out auditoriums. She and Paige DeSorbo have also toured with their podcast, Giggly Squad, and Berner Phone. Paige and Hannah are currently preparing for their Giggly Squad Live: Club Giggly tour. The duo invite their listeners to indulge in a night full of hot topics, laughter, and deep conversations. Combined, both podcasts have had 70 million downloads. Even Hannah’s video series, Han on the Street, has prepared her for her stand-up debut. According to YouTube, she has over 400 million views with segments like “Do women fake orgasms?” and “Who should pay on the first date?”

Does Hannah have the chops?

Even though some Summer House fans might not understand why Netflix would have granted her a solo special, she is a rising star. In 2023 Hannah was spotted doing regular appearances in the New York comedy scene. The former reality TV star was also named one of Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch in 2023. Regarding her upcoming comedy special, Hannah told Variety she hopes “will hopefully make everyone cry hysterically laughing and forget about all their problems for 60 minutes. I also hope they leave feeling empowered and not taking life too seriously. That’s the goal.”

For Hannah, the Netflix spot is a dream come true. At the time of her interview, she told the outlet, “This is probably the coolest thing that has ever happened to me. I’m in love with the hour that I’ve been touring for a while now, and I’m honored that Netflix wants to showcase my silly bits.” The newlywed is “excited for my stand-up to reach a larger audience and to celebrate the community of badass women and scared boyfriends, mothers, and zaddies that got me to this point.”
