Kelly Bensimon Claims She Canceled Wedding Because Ex-Fiancé ‘Refused to Sign a Prenup’

What a wild day few days this has been for Kelly Bensimon. This weekend, she and Scott Litner were all set to wed, but now, they are not. Instead, this Real Housewives of New York City alum just called the whole thing off, and as the days roll on by, we are finding out exactly why she decided to pull this plug. Basically, Kelly “Holla[ed], We want prenup! We want prenup! Yeah!,” but Scott sang that last lyric with a nope, killing everything in turn.

Kelly Bensimon’s wedding is off, and now we know why

Page Six was the first to report on Kelly’s broken engagement. “I have decided that my two daughters are my priority and I won’t be moving forward with this wedding,” Kelly said to the outlet, via a prepared statement. She then asked for privacy.

Turning to PEOPLE, Kelly has just revealed that she “refused to marry him,” because Scott, a financier, failed to sign a prenuptial agreement. I can fully understand this move, to be clear. Both parties have lived an entire life up until now, and their assets (and debts) gained could equally be put on the line, should this union ever fail. So yeah, Kelly and Scott both needed to protect their bags here, but apparently, Scott disagreed.

“Ultimately, my decision is nobody’s business, but I understand that there is speculation and gossip, and I want to put an end to all of it,” Kelly began. “To be clear, he refused to sign a prenuptial agreement, and I refused to marry him. Full stop.”

PEOPLE also noted that they have reached out to Scott for his take on this matter. However, at this time, Scott has not yet responded. To note, this would have been Kelly’s second marriage. Her first marriage to Gilles Bensimon, a well-known fashion photographer, ended in 2006, gifting Kelly with their two daughters, Sea and Teddy.

TELL US – ARE YOU SURPRISED THAT SCOTT WOULDN’T SIGN A PRENUP? DO YOU THINK THAT HE MIGHT CHANGE HIS MIND NOW AND SIGN IT, ALLOWING FOR THEIR WEDDING TO TAKE PLACE? DO WE EVEN STILL WANT THIS FOR KELLY?
