The dust has settled after the takedown of Jonathan Van Ness, and they have a lot of explaining to do. The Queer Eye star was accused of having on-set rage issues, causing fear throughout the set. At times, some staffers said he had a cartoonish level of anger.
Of course, everyone is entitled to having an occasional freakout. However, there was a pretty stark contrast between what we saw on TV compared to how JVN allegedly acted behind the scenes. Now, months after the allegations came to light, they’re acting like the whole situation was blown out of proportion.
Zero accountability from JVN
The allegedly cranky reality star appeared on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware. They finally spoke up about the allegations surrounding their character and decided to blame the staffers who spoke out instead of taking accountability. JVN said their stories weren’t “based in reality.”
“I think a lot of people were like looking for a reason to hate me or like looking for a reason to be like, ‘See, I always knew that they were a fake c-nt and this is the proof,’” JVN claimed.
Although multiple sources came forward with allegations about JVN, they felt like it was all taken out of context. When things started getting hot, JVN said they stayed away from social media for weeks to avoid seeing any of the feedback.
“That article came at like an incredibly vulnerable time, like for my hair care company, for like my whole career. It just was really rough,” JVN recalled.
The allegations about JVN were also accompanied by murmurs of infighting within the Fab Five. Bobby Berk left the show, and rumors suggested that the rest of the Queer Eye cast iced him out. In particular, Tan France allegedly tried to push the design expert out of the group so he could get his friend, Jeremiah Brent, hired as a replacement.
According to JVN, all of these accusations were part of a “bad faith” takedown. They want us to just forget about all of this and believe that the shiny, bubbly personality we see on TV is the real thing. That might be easier said than done.
