Married at First Sight Star Found Dead in Jail Cell Before Court Appearance

Here’s some devasting news from the Married at First Sight universe. Andrew Jury from Married at First Sight New Zealand was found dead recently while in a jail cell awaiting a court appearance. The sad news has left his MAFS castmates in mourning, and fans with a ton of questions about what happened.

Rest in Peace, Andrew

Andrew starred in the first season of Married At First Sight New Zealand back in 2019. He matched up with a lady named Vicky Gleeson-Stokes, but their relationship fizzled out after the finale. Since then, Andrew has largely remained out of the public eye. However, he may have been dealing with some mental health issues in the days since his reality TV appearance.

According to Page Six, he was being held in an Auckland jail after being charged with “unlawfully entering a building, assault with intent to injure, wilful damage, possession of an offensive weapon, and threatening behavior.”

While awaiting a court appearance in a jail cell, the 33-year-old was found dead by officials. Reports indicate that they tried to resuscitate him but were unsuccessful. The cause of his death remains unknown, but Auckland officials suggested that there was nothing “suspicious” about it. Meanwhile, Andrew’s dad said he feared that his son may be experiencing a mental health crisis in the days leading up to his death.

“It should have been a red flag when Andy stopped communicating with family and friends,” his father said. “I and Andy’s extended family and friends are deeply saddened and bewildered by this distressing event.”

In a touching statement, Andrew’s Married at First Sight castmates reacted to his passing, acknowledging that their experience on the show kept them bonded.

“It’s with the heaviest hearts we’ve come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury,” the statement read. “We had the absolute pleasure of filming and participating in a show which leaves us intricately linked for a lifetime.”
