Top Chef Star Justin Sutherland Facing Criminal Charges After Alleged Gun Threat Against Girlfriend

Top Chef Season 16 competitor Justin Sutherland is facing criminal charges. Justin allegedly committed an act of domestic abuse against his girlfriend, even threatening her with a gun.

An attorney for Justin spoke out about the allegations against him, saying the claims were “riddled with falsehoods.” The attorney, John Daly, further said, “Mr. Sutherland vehemently denies all the allegations in the complaint.”

Daly continued, “He never threatened to shoot anyone. He did not physically assault his girlfriend. He looks forward to the truth coming out as the court process unfolds.” Read on to see the details of the alleged crime.

Justin apologizes for his behavior following his arrest

On July 2, Page Six reported their exclusive findings obtained from the court documents around Justin Sutherland. Justin was arrested on Friday, June 28, and faces criminal charges. He allegedly threatened to shoot his girlfriend and squeezed her neck. The criminal complaint recounts the victim’s conversations with police.

She claimed that Justin hit her in the chest with the gun in hand. He then allegedly said, “Don’t come back here or I am going to shoot you.” The woman’s name was left anonymous in light of the allegations. She further claimed that Justin grabbed her by the neck and squeezed for several seconds. He also allegedly said, “I could kill you,” while doing so.

Justin proclaimed his innocence to Page Six. In a written statement, he shared, “Over the weekend I found myself in a situation where I was taken into custody and accused of a crime. I deeply regret putting myself in that position and the pain and distress caused to those around me.”

He continued, “I sincerely apologize to my family, friends, and fans. I am innocent of these charges and look forward to using the judicial system to prove my innocence. Notwithstanding, this incident has made me realize the urgent need to seek professional help and make significant changes in my life.”
