Kara Keough had no problem telling her mom, Jeana, exactly what she thought about her filtered photos. Basically, the former Real Housewives of Orange County star went on a small editing spree after July 4.
Of course, Jeana is far from the only Housewife to apply filters to her photos. From the moment the Housewives franchise started, unfair beauty standards crept in. As with most anyone, Bravolebrities want to preserve their youth. Frankly, it’s hard not to sympathize with them when they’re under constant observation.
The understandable desire to look young and attractive unfortunately creates a vicious cycle. As Housewives go to great lengths to look good, the fanbase often blasts them. In Jeana’s case, at least she has her daughter. Kara does her best to keep her mother grounded.
Kara expresses her disappointment in Jeana
On July 5, Jeana posted a photo with a friend that featured some apparent filters. Jeana’s wrinkles were smoothed out and some fans speculated that she whitened her teeth as well. Commenters immediately took note with one writing, “Where’s Kara to set you straight?!? You don’t need filters!”
Subsequently, Kara soon made her way into the comments. “This ain’t it, sis,” she wrote. Kara’s indirect call for self-acceptance and body positivity resonated with other Instagram users. The majority of commenters agreed with Kara, encouraging her to forego the filters in the future. This wouldn’t be the first time Jeana’s daughter tried to promote more self-love and less editing.
On July 2, Jeana shared a photo alongside Chip McAllister from The Amazing Race. The selfie was also rather clearly altered and Kara commented, “Take this down, now.” Then, when Jeana reuploaded the original photo, Kara wrote, “There’s my girl.” Here’s hoping the online commentators can encourage fewer filters in the kindest way possible.
Jeana is set to appear as a guest on Real Housewives of Orange County Season 18, which hits Bravo on July 11 at 9/8c.
