Shannon Beador Admits ‘Horrible Choice’ Led to DUI: ‘Forced Me To Look at My Life’

Shannon Beador was facing a rocky Season 18 of Real Housewives of Orange County. This was due to several factors. She fell out with fellow Tres Amigas, and friend, Tamra Judge. Her ex-boyfriend, John Janssen, started dating RHOC alum Alexis Bellino. As if that wasn’t upsetting enough for Shannon, Alexis signed on as a friend of the housewives for Season 18. And John is clinging to Alexis’ camera time coattails. But the biggest obstacle that Shannon has to deal with is her DUI.

Some of her co-stars aren’t happy with Shannon’s decisions about treatment following the accident. But now Shannon is sharing her feelings about the mistake that she made that day.

“I’ve done a lot and I still have more to do. I work with my therapist, and I have a psychiatrist from the program that I went to for 30 days,” Shannon told US Weekly. “And I feel as though I’m growing. I’m headed down a healthier path, and I’m trying to create any type of positive thing that I can out of a horrible situation.”

Shannon is “incredibly grateful” that no one was injured. At the time of the accident, Shannon shared that her “coping mechanism” was alcohol. For that reason, she opted to attend therapy instead of rehab. And that choice didn’t sit well with some of her RHOC co-stars.

In September 2023, Shannon hit a house while trying to park her car. Unfortunately, her dog Archie was with her. The RHOC star was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run. As a result, Shannon had to complete 40 hours of community service and was sentenced to three years probation. She also had to pay fines and finish a nine-month alcohol program.

“I made a horrible choice very late in my life, and I considered myself a better example than that,” Shannon stated. “So I’ve got to make changes, and it has forced me to look at my life. I have a lot of work to do. It’s probably lifelong, but I feel good about myself and I don’t want to be in a relationship, which is crazy.”

And somewhere John is breathing a sigh of relief and cuddling up to Alexis.

Real Housewives of Orange County airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
