There’s something so satisfying about watching people fall in love on reality TV. There is always a chance that it is real, genuine emotion. But more often than not, two people are just trying to figure out a way to survive a round of house votes. The Big Brother house is no stranger to this strategy. Over the years, we’ve seen relationships start with a bang and fizzle out by the end of the season. So which were the best and worst showmances? Let’s take a look.

Worst Big Brother Showmances: Mark Jansen and Elena Davis

As Season 19 of Big Brother kicked off, Mark Jansen and Elena Davies really seemed to like one another. The couple developed a nice little fan base throughout their time in the house. However, after they were evicted things started to go wrong. Fans became annoyed with them when they started to beg for money constantly. Viewers found their spending habits petty, as they had once bought toilet paper with Mark’s face on it. The two didn’t last long, and Mark eventually dumped Elena shortly after she relocated from Dallas.

Best Big Brother Showmances: Jared Fields and Blue Kim

Jared Fields and Blue Kim from Season 25 were actually quite cute. Their entire origin story centered around a handful of missing condoms. After the house started noticing the pile going down, CBS cameras zoomed in on Blue and Jared, who naturally didn’t own up to their secret hookups. Even though neither ended up winning Big Brother, as Jared came in 11th and Blue placed 7th, the two formed a connection they felt was worthy of outside the house.

Blue lasted a bit longer in the game, finishing in 7th place. The duo agreed to see how they managed in the outside world.

Worst Big Brother Showmances: Will Kirby and Shannon Drago

I’ll admit it. I loved watching Dr. Will Kirby and  Shannon Drago. Will was the villain everyone needed, and sadly, Shannon was just collateral damage. The couple made numerous enemies during Season 2. Hardy Hill, another contestant, gave the duo a hard time, but their rivalry reached a breaking point when Shannon decided to wash the toilet with Hardy’s toothbrush. Needless to say, Will and Shannon did not bring out the best in one another, as cameras caught Will egging her on.

Best Big Brother Showmances: Swaggy C and Bayleigh Dayton

Swaggy C and Bayleigh Dayton, aka Swayleigh’s romance, started pretty much as soon as they walked through the doors of the Big Brother house. Both were often caught by live feeds hanging out alone and having some deep talks. The two contestants only ended up spending  23 days together, as Swaggy found himself evicted. The two kept up their connection. After the season ended, Swaggy didn’t waste any time and proposed.

Worst Big Brother Showmances: McCrae Olson and Amanda Zuckerman

McCrae Olson and Amanda Zuckerman were inseparable during their time as house guests. Big Brother Season 15 was rough all around, but this showmance really put the nail into the coffin for viewers. The pair didn’t seem to respect one another, with McCrae later admitting on X that he regretted getting involved with Amanda. At the time, McCrae said he only did it to further his game. But fans remember a very different story when they were in the house. Everything seemed to center around Amanda, with fans giving McCrae the title of “Pizza Boy.”

If I’ve learned anything from all the seasons of Big Brother, it would be that it is probably not worth finding yourself in romance. One way or the other, the relationship may come back to haunt you. If I were a new house guest, I think I would aim to keep to myself. But that’s the thing about reality TV: while we love a good happily ever after, we also like to see messy breakups.
