Shannon Beador Says ‘I Deserved to Get Hurt’ After DUI

When Real Housewives of Orange County Season 18 premiered, Shannon Beador gave us all a jump scare from hell. This season, Shannon’s DUI and arrest will be a hot topic within her cast, as it should be. In a scene teased in the premiere, we saw Shannon opening up to Heather Dubrow about that night. In doing so, Shannon pulled up a photo of herself, taken sometime after her crash. It’s bloody and sad, but thankfully, Shannon grasps the heaviness of it all. In hindsight, she feels like she “deserved to get hurt.”

As an aside, driving drunk is never okay. Hopefully, this will be the first and the last DUI on Shannon’s lifelong BINGO card.

Shannon is choosing to speak on her DUI

Opening up to PEOPLE about her September 2023 DUI arrest post-wreck, Shannon admits that she doesn’t even remember taking this bloody selfie. The first time she saw it, it “shocked” her. But in seeing this, Shannon finally grasped how “serious” and “traumatic” this night was. “As you can see, I was injured pretty badly and when I looked at it, it almost felt like I was looking at someone who wasn’t me,” she explained.

“I didn’t want to see myself that way, and I didn’t want anyone else to see me that way either,” she added, admitting that she “honestly thought” she’d “never show it to anyone” else. But somewhere along the way, she changed her mind. In doing so, Shannon knew her image would circulate, but she wanted to be honest, so she brushed her feelings aside.

“It was a big step for me to take that. When someone Googles my name, probably for the rest of my life, that’s what they’ll see: my face, covered in blood, from the night that easily marked the lowest point of my entire life. But I wanted to be able to speak of everything that happened,” Shannon stressed.

She also touched on the fact that she could have hurt others, which alarms her. Yet on herself, she noted, “Oh, I deserved to get hurt. I made a very stupid choice. I could have killed someone,” she very correctly added.

This is “the beginning of a new chapter in my life,” Shannon ended. Hopefully, she sticks to this statement. One less drunk driver on the streets is a win for us all.

Real Housewives of Orange County airs every Thursday at 9/8c on Bravo.
