Welcome to the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 10 recap! In this week’s episode, called “Regret-Me-Knot,” Sandy suggests that Ellie and Bri change up their sleeping quarters to give them some space from each other. Gael makes a mistake that uses up all the boat’s hot water. Nathan initially covers for her, but she voluntarily takes accountability with Captain Sandy. The laundry issues continue until Aesha finally comes up with a plan to see who’s making the mistakes. Here are some of the highlights from Below Deck Med Season 9, Episode 10.

“Be kind to each other”

Elena and Bri are still in their meeting with Captain Sandy. Ellie is brown-nosing, pretending she hasn’t done “anything wrong” and it’s just Bri who’s being disrespectful.

But Sandy says they’re in the middle of a charter, and if she lets one go, she has to let them both go. In the end, she just asks them to “be kind to each other,” and they’ll figure it out when the charter’s over.

After dismissing the toxic two, Sandy calls Aesha to the bridge. “They really just don’t like each other,” Sandy says.

Aesha agrees. She feels like she’s “failing” as a chief stew because she doesn’t know what the answer is.

Meanwhile, Ellie interviews, “My head should not be anywhere near the chopping block.” The only thing she can do right now is to “keep my mouth shut and put up with Bri’s bullsh*t.”

As an afterthought, Sandy asks Aesha if Ellie and Bri are sharing a cabin. When Aesha admits that they are, Sandy asks if she can change that. Maybe some space apart will be good for them. Aesha decides to move Bri in with her, and Gael will move in with Ellie. I think that’s a great idea.

Aesha has doubts about Ellie

The guests complain that Ellie’s drinks don’t taste as good as the ones Aesha makes. So Aesha questions how Ellie’s making the drinks.

“Ellie’s job as the second stew should be cocktails and decorating,” Aesha says in a confessional. “She’s so good at [decorating], but her cocktails kind of suck. And then she mislabeled Jono’s pants. I never quite know what I can rely on her for.”

Aesha’s team is falling apart, and it’s hard to see how they can all move forward throughout the rest of the season.

An Iain problem

One of the guests gets up early and wants to use the jacuzzi, so Gael tries to get it running and warm for her. Later, she tells Nathan that it’s not draining correctly.

When the chief engineer arrives to examine the problem, he reports back to Captain Sandy: “The Deck crew didn’t close the jacuzzi valve, and we’ve lost hot water. I’m working on fixing it.”

“These are the mistakes that shouldn’t be happening on charter five,” Sandy tells him when he comes to say the hot water is back. Sandy calls Iain and Nathan to the bridge.

“I don’t want to have to do this after the tip meeting,” she tells them. “The jacuzzi valve was left open. All the hot water was used.”

“I was there,” Nathan admits. “I’ll take the blame.” Did he just throw himself under the bus to protect Gael? Aww. He’s smitten.

Sandy just begs, “Get it together on deck. Please.”

“This is an Iain problem,” Sandy interviews. “This is a lack of leadership. It’s not just about the jacuzzi. There’s a lot of little things that keep happening … We’ve gotta be pros on deck.”

Even though Nathan has already taken the blame for her mistake, Gael feels guilty and goes to have a chat with Sandy.

She tells Sandy that she wants to “take responsibility for it … I just want to apologize, because that was me. I turned it on.”

“You’re not in trouble,” Sandy tells her tearful deckhand. “When I say something, it’s just to educate people and to say, ‘Let’s try to work on this.’”

“I love when crew members take accountability,” Sandy interviews. “It’s a mistake. Gael’s visibly nervous, but she’s accountable … That is something [I wish] Iain would do more of.”

After the guests leave, Bri’s back in the laundry trying to make sense of things. She’s making her lists and writing things down, “But then I come back, and everything would be different. Did I do that? … I’m really starting to think that Ellie is sabotaging me.”

She very politely and carefully asks Ellie if she can just “stay out of the laundry” and let her handle it. Then she goes and tells Aesha that she’s asked Ellie “not to do laundry at all.”

But Aesha says they’re actually one person short for a boat this size, and she’s not going to tell Ellie not to go into the laundry. It’s a big job, and they all need to work together. Aesha is in charge; not Bri.

Joe sings a little ditty

At the tip meeting, Sandy expresses her appreciation for how hard everyone’s working on not enough rest. So the “owner of the boat” has arranged a day out for the crew as a reward. They’re going to the Acropolis, followed by a trip to a beach club. Yay!

While everyone else is getting ready for a crew night out, Ellie crawls into her bunk. “What are you doing?” Aesha asks.

Ellie says she just needs to rest and get a reset so she can start “fresh” tomorrow.

“I am over the drama with Bri,” she says in a confessional. “It’s been the same thing over and over again. I feel completely emotionally battered … I just need to sort myself out.”

In the van on the way to dinner, Joe confesses that he was singing an inappropriate song he spontaneously made up, not realizing that Ellie was in the room. The song was about having “already had one, now it’s time for two,” in reference to his relationships with Bri and Ellie.

Aesha says if she were Ellie, she’d never give Joe the time of day again. But he feels bad and promises to apologize to her tomorrow.

But when Bri hears about the song, her feelings are hurt. She also no longer wants anything to do with Joe either.

An apology … sort of

Following their visit to the Acropolis — built in 420 BC, y’all; Aesha says, “That’s AGES ago!” –- the crew sits down for lunch at the beach club. Both Ellie and Bri are upset with Joe over his suggestive song.

Ellie says it was “disrespectful.” According to Ellie, just about everything everyone says is “disrespectful,” but I have to agree with her on this one. It was pretty rude.

“Ellie,” Joe says, “I’ve upset you, haven’t I? You’ve got to understand. It was only a little song with the boys.” Just say you’re sorry and we can all move on, bro.

“I’m sorry if I offended you,” he finally says. I hate it when people add that second part. That’s putting the blame on the other person. Just say you’re sorry.

“I’m a pr*ck,” he adds. “I apologize if I hurt your feelings.” Ugh. Again with the “if” bullsh*t. Just say you’re sorry, dude! Still, Elena accepts the apology. Time to move on.

Separating the dueling stews

The next morning is moving day for Bri and Gael. Bri is moving in with Aesha, while Gael will bunk with Ellie. I hope the space helps them get along better.

Her tongue firmly in her cheek, Bri comments, “You know what they say about distance. It can make the heart grow fonder.” Never mind “fond.” If they can just tolerate being in the same room at the same time, it’ll be an improvement.

But again, Captain Sandy is missing articles of clothing, and Bri is also missing one of her own shirts.

Aesha decides that from now on, Ellie will only wash napkins, rags, and towels — not clothes — so they can figure out what’s going on. Ellie’s already mixed up Jono’s pants and who knows what else.

It’s just too confusing to have two people working in the same space. Neither of them can create a working system.

When Aesha explains the new system to Bri, the chief stew says she will not tolerate mistakes and will “consider letting you go.”
