Why The Real Housewives of Dallas Won’t Get a Second Chance

With the remake of DCC (Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders) making a comeback on Netflix, Bravo fans wonder if we will ever get the Real Housewives of Dallas back on the network. I’ll admit I am addicted to everything Dallas and Thunderstruck after the cheerleading doc returns. Still, I can’t wrap my head around the Real Housewives franchise ever getting a second chance. Here’s why!

Brandi Redmond

How do you solve a problem like Brandi Redmond? Honestly, I feel like I’ll be humming that tune about multiple people on this list. But Brandi was a bit of a chameleon. She was bubbly, funny, and very Texas. She was a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and deeply Christian. So, for most people, she represented what it was to be a Texan. You know Miss Texas in Miss Congeniality? That was Brandi. But even though she was a fan favorite, she wasn’t perfect. Old videos reemerged, showing her spouting racist ideology.

In Season 5, old videos showed her mocking Asians, which eventually got her canceled. In the video, Brandi put on a fake accent and said, “Everybody ask me what Asian I am because of my eyes, they squinty.” Dr. Tiffany Moon stood up to Brandi, saying, “I don’t want you to think that I’m like, coming after you or attacking you or anything, but I think I would be remiss if I just sat silently, like, complicit, like, ‘This is my opportunity to stand up and say like what you did was wrong. Like, it hurt a lot of people’s feelings. It was in poor taste. You know that.”

LeeAnne Locken

See, I’m humming that tune again. LeeAnne Locken was no stranger to reality TV. Fans might recall seeing her on Big Rich Texas. But when they came to the Real Housewives of Dallas, a lot had changed. LeeAnne went from the lady about town to quite a bully. The Texas series was particularly embarrassing for the Lone Star State. And just when you thought it couldn’t get much worse, LeeAnne went and called her costar, Kary Brittingham, a “chirpy Mexican.” The former carnie also challenged Kary’s strength by leaning on a played-out stereotype, saying the mother of four was supposed to act “all Mexican and strong.”

In Season 2, LeeAnne at the time had one of the best hot mic moments ever in Real Housewives history. But in retrospect, her words were alarming. “She’s going to come for me one day, and it’s not going to be pretty. I grew up with a lot of things in my hands and they’re not knives. They’re just hands. They work quite well.” The threatening stance didn’t sit well with the network who kept a close eye on the entire cast after that.

The future of the Real Housewives of Dallas

The future of the Real Housewives of Dallas looks pretty bleak, especially after the last season of anti-Asian comments. Sadly, even though this particular franchise has been canceled, many fans still don’t understand why RHOD couldn’t be renewed. The environment was toxic, and instead of showing a melting pot, it focused on some pretty narrow-minded influencers. However, there have been rumors that the Real Housewives of Dallas might be trying to have a rebirth.

LeeAnne addressed the underground chat with OK! sharing,  “I would love to have RHOD back on air with the drama, the parties, and even the friendships.” But according to LeeAnne, she didn’t miss “some of the cast’s toxicity, especially on social media.” And I think that’s the crux of the issue. If we thought the women of Dallas were getting better, we were proven wrong when Brandi recently took to Instagram to share what many have called an ultra-right-wing post following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

If the Real Housewives of Dallas ever did somehow make a comeback, it would need to be with a whole new diverse group of women. Personally, I think there are more interesting places and women to focus a camera on. Dallas’s time has passed, and Bravo fans are better off!
