Showmances can make or break a player’s game. Many Big Brother players steer clear of them because they are convinced it will tank their game. Being in a showmance can indeed put a target on your back but there are also benefits to finding love in the BB house. For one, it means you have an ally who won’t flip on you. While some showmances have hindered players, others have used their showmance to propel them to victory.

Here are the most successful showmances in Big Brother history.

Jackson Michie and Holly Allen – Big Brother 21

Big Brother 21 stars Jackson Michie and Holly Allen weren’t fan favorites but they were a successful showmance. The couple managed to align with the right people early on. They found themselves at the center of a majority alliance called Gr8ful. As the game progressed, the alliance crumbled but they remained a united front, protecting each other at every turn.

In terms of gameplay, they were a good match. Holly was a solid social player. The house liked her and they didn’t find her behavior as offensive as her boyfriend’s. She managed to escape the block for 78 days, an impressive achievement in the Big Brother house. She was nominated at the final 5 but avoided eviction thanks to Jackson. He made up an elaborate lie about fellow houseguest Tommy Bracco that resulted in him being evicted from the house instead of her. Most people wouldn’t stick their neck out for another player the way he did.

Jackson’s social game wasn’t his strong point. Sure, he knew how to get respect and yield power but he also offended multiple houseguests throughout the season. He may have lacked Holly’s charm but he had other strengths. He was excellent in competitions and knew how to organize alliances. Their skills combined made them an unstoppable duo in the house. They made it to the final two together, which is almost unheard of for showmances because you know, you don’t take a showmance to the final three.

Erika Landin and Mike ‘Boogie’ Malin – Big Brother 7

It pains me to call Erika Landin and Mike “Boogie” Malin a “successful showmance,” considering how he treated her in Big Brother 7. However, they made it to the end together, so I have to give them props. They weren’t compatible on a romantic level but they were instrumental to each other’s game. Boogie needed Erika as much as he needed Dr. Will Kirby.

Tyler Crispen and Angela Rummans – Big Brother 20

Angela Rummans and Tyler Crispen didn’t make it to the final two together but their romance was beneficial to both of their games. They worked together in the Level Six alliance and made it to the final four. They dominated the second half of the game and were able to take out several players from the opposing side. Tyler was a mastermind and Angela was a competition beast, a deadly combination in the Big Brother house.

Taylor Hale and Joseph Abdin – Big Brother 24

Taylor Hale and Joseph Abdin didn’t make it to the end together but they were integral to each other’s game. The two worked together in The Leftovers alliance, which was comprised of players who felt like outsiders in the house. The alliance quickly became the dominant alliance in the house and they were able to eliminate major power players in the game.

The two started as friends but a romance began to bloom once they began working together. Unfortunately, Joseph’s game came to an end during the Split House twist when Kyle Capener chose to protect his showmance over his ally. While his showmance with Taylor didn’t lead him to victory, he helped pave her path to the end. Joseph was instrumental in creating The Leftovers, which turned Taylor’s game completely around. Her trajectory in the game could have been very different if it wasn’t for her relationship with Joseph. Their bond improved her position in the house and allowed her to overcome the unfair judgment that was cast upon her at the beginning of the game.
