Ever since Joan Vassos made her TV debut on Season 1 of The Golden Bachelor, she’s been getting lots of attention. But not necessarily the kind she wants.
The upcoming Golden Bachelorette star said that she’s been “inundated” with messages from strangers on social media.
“I had a hard time navigating that process. On a dating app, they’re kind of vetted, and you can see a profile,” she said. “[But with DMs], they’re just total strangers messaging you. I didn’t really respond to those much. Or I would have little conversations and say, ‘Thank you, you’re so flattering,’ or whatever.”

Ever since making her Bachelor Nation debut, Joan’s DMs have gone wild. Sadly, none of the messages “seemed to be anything that would really work out” and “some of the DMs were weird.”
“I got d*ck pics,” she explained. “I got people with foot fetishes. They wanted me to send them pictures of my feet and would pay me for it. One person offered to buy all the shoes that I wore on Golden Bachelor. It was scary. My kids were like, ‘Give me your phone, mom. We’re blocking all this.'”
Viewers first met Joan as one of Gerry Turner’s girls on The Golden Bachelor, the senior version of ABC’s The Bachelor. Despite being a fan favorite, Joan chose to leave the show early to care for her adult daughter who had just given birth and was suffering from postpartum depression. No matter how old they are, when your child needs you, you go.
But in May, ABC announced that Joan would get a second chance to find love when she was named as the inaugural Golden Bachelorette. She described the type of man she’s looking for to People.
“I’m very picky about a man being a gentleman,” she expressed. “Somebody with a big heart, somebody who is generous, and also somebody who’s humble.”
“I’m not here to replace Dad,” she assured her children. “I just want our family to be whole again. So, let’s cheers: cheers to a great adventure!”
The Golden Bachelorette Season 1 premieres on September 18 on ABC.
