Alan Cumming Acts His ‘Socks Off’ on The Traitors ‘Like Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show’

It may be reality TV, but that won’t stop Alan Cumming from showing his acting prowess. The Good Wife actor is leaving his mark as the master of ceremonies for the fabulous murder mystery competition, The Traitors. And with an earpiece on and producers in his ear, he admits that he feels a bit like Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show.

Despite playing himself on the show, Alan admits that he treated the role like he would any other. And this meant getting into character and acting his tartan-covered socks off. It just goes to show that you can take the actor out of the theater, but you can never take the theater out of the actor.

Alan Cumming has to act on The Traitors, and the clothes help make the character

“I act my socks off in The Traitors,” Alan told The Hollywood Reporter. “Just like I did on The Good Wife. It’s this very juicy thing like I do in the theater or would do at the Tony’s.”

And like he is known for in the theater (and life), Alan admitted that a big key to getting into his “character’s” headspace was lavish and elaborate outfits.

“Being on a film, you get dressed in the morning, get into your costume and makeup and hair,” he shared. “That is very important for me, to understand who the character is.”

And we all know how fabulous Alan looks as the often tartan-wearing host of the show. He had so much fun with his many opulent costume changes on the show. Alan even shared an Instagram post of himself rating his many sartorial choices.

Still, while his method of getting into character is similar to how he does it when he is playing a part, he admits there are still differences between being in reality TV versus being part of a television show.

A major one is that Alan has now mastered the art of improv, thinking on the fly, and being fed lines and direction from producers through an earpiece while remaining natural and in character.

“I like having a little earpiece in,” Alan admitted. “I feel like Jennifer Aniston in The Morning Show, but with better clothes.”

And he is definitely giving with his cheeky performance and an endless supply of gorgeous outfits on The Traitors. We’re already looking forward to all his new looks in the upcoming third season of the show.

The Traitors is available to stream on Peacock.
