While Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix played a woman behind bars in Broadway’s Chicago, her little brother Jeremy Madix was doing the real thing. He found himself stuck in a real jail facing serious accusations of drug trafficking.
Jeremy got busted in Orlando, Florida, along with his buddy Jonah, for allegedly trying to take 76 pounds of weed onto a flight to Germany. Pro tip: don’t do that. The agents at the airport slapped these two with felony trafficking charges.
Unfortunately for Jeremy, there’s no such thing in real life as a “Get Out of Jail Free” card. So, he just had to drop some major dough to get that cell door unlocked.
A small price to pay
When Jeremy was taken into custody, the cops held him in a Florida jail without bond. His lawyer fought to try to get some leniency from the judge, arguing that he needed to come home to California to return to work, school, and whatever else it is that Jeremy does with his free time.
Even his mom wrote a letter pleading with the judge to let Jeremy out of jail. She tried to convince the judge that her son was an upstanding citizen and not some drug smuggling threat to society.
A judge eventually set Jeremy’s bond to $80,000. According to Radar Online, he ended up paying 10% to a bondsman to get out of jail. Part of his release granted him the freedom to go back home to California. However, he definitely can’t leave the country. They revoked that passport.
Getting out on bond is good news for now, but Jeremy isn’t out of the woods yet. His felony trafficking charge can carry a punishment of up to 30 years in prison. Let’s hope the judge is a VPR fan.
