Captain Sandy Furious After Chef Jono Serves Potentially Fatal Food to Charter Guest

Chef Jonathan Shillingford has created problems for Captain Sandy Yawn almost all season long. Kicking off his time on Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, the chef slept when the guests wanted a midnight snack. Despite the crew’s efforts to wake him, he stayed asleep.

Sandy would end up taking Jono’s side on that matter. But the division it sowed between the crew wasn’t ideal. Later on, the guests complained about receiving cold eggs at breakfast. Sandy asked how that happened and Jono said they were late to breakfast.

While the explanation made sense, Sandy couldn’t believe he didn’t make the eggs to order. She called Jono’s decision there “a huge red flag.” Chef Jono may have been a one-charter wonder, as Sandy seemed to lose all confidence in Season 9’s most recent episode.

Sandy makes a call to replace Chef Jono

On Below Deck Med’s August 26 episode, Jono prepared a tuna carpaccio for the guests. But there was just one problem. “It looks beautiful,” one guest said. “I would eat it if I could, but I can’t eat raw fish cause it could kill me.” What’s worse, Jono knew this, but it somehow slipped his mind. But Captain Sandy wasn’t all too sympathetic toward the mistake, understandably so.

“What the f*ck!” she said in a confessional. “This is unacceptable.” Jono apologized to Sandy and she told him to apologize to the guest instead. “I’m really f*cking pissed,” Sandy reiterated when alone with the cameras. “Never in my 35 years at sea have I had a chef feed a guest something that could actually kill them. This is a fireable offense.”

In his confessional, Jono admitted, “I feel terrible.” Nevertheless, he had to press on. “I don’t know how I let that slip … I also have the rest of the dinner to get through, so I’m trying not to let it throw me off too badly. But I can’t help feeling sh*tty.” Meanwhile, Sandy placed a call with Yacht Crew Replacement. “I need a new chef,” she said. “Time frame’s like, today.”

Unfortunately for Sandy, but luckily for Jono, no replacement was lined up. Not yet, that is.

Below Deck Med continues Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
