Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelorette ended on a high note. Or so it seemed. Things came down to Devin Strader and Marcus Shoberg. In the end, Jenn chose Devin, and the two shared a heartfelt proposal.
“I love you so deeply, Devin,” Jenn said. “But I can’t let you propose to me. I’ve decided to choose myself in this journey, and the best version of myself is when I’m with you.” She proposed with a wedding band in a seashell.
Devin said, “Absolutely, a hundred times over.” For good measure, Devin also proposed. “Will you make me the happiest man and marry me?” But after the romantic Hawaiian engagement, things fell apart.
Jenn Tran feels Devin’s behavior “invalidated the entire relationship”
During After the Final Rose, Jenn told Jesse Palmer how things changed after the finale. “He was making bold proclamations of love,” Jenn explained. “And then suddenly the next day he was like, nothing and he denied ever being in love.”
“All the promises he had made to me, all of the love that he had wanted to give to me wasn’t there anymore.” When Jenn and Devin confronted each other on stage, the two had a lot to discuss. For example, how Devin requested time and space from Jenn only to go clubbing in New York. Or how he followed a former Bachelor contestant shortly after their split.
Jenn said that behavior “completely invalidated the entire relationship.” Folks were right to see red flags. Devin had nothing to say except, “I failed you. And there’s nothing I can say other than that. But everything I felt for you was real. Devin expressed remorse for not expressing his doubts sooner.
Jenn asserted, “You had one foot out the door the entire time. I am heartbroken every Monday night watching the lies you said to me on TV.” Devin claimed he wasn’t there to save face. Only to make sure that Jenn would be okay. One can’t help but feel that ABC short-changed Jenn on the contestants this season.
The Bachelorette is streaming on Hulu.
