Who knew The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives would be so popular with viewers? The group of social media influencers is ripping back the iron curtain of Mormonism and showing they can live life on their own terms. These newest reality TV stars are young and hungry to make a change. But fans are learning that Demi Engemann already had a connection to the reality TV world. It turns out her husband, Brett Engemann, has been on not one but two programs that most viewers have heard of.
Demi Engemann was married before
Before she found the man of her dreams and married Brett, Demi was married to Blake Corbin. Both men actually knew one another and could be considered friends. During a TikTok, Demi revealed how, at the time, she was expecting her first child, Maude, with Blake, and they bumped into Brett. He had just gone through his second divorce and was single. Demi and Blake decided to secretly send in an application for The Bachelorette on his behalf. Lo and behold, Brett was cast as the oldest contestant in Clare Crawley’s season but was sent home after production was shut down due to COVID-19.
Sadly, Demi and Blake’s marriage came to an end. In a reel, Demi shared that postpartum depression and anxiety after the birth ultimately led to their divorce. In her TikTok series, Demi noted: “Out of respect for my ex-husband and the divorce not being finalized, we waited to go on any official date so we were kind of hanging out and keeping it casual while trying to figure out my new situation with my ex-husband and co-parenting.”
Demi’s meet-cute
In 2023, Demi opened up about how she had come to meet Brett. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star revealed, “There has been a lot of controversy around our relationship, and the fact that we got into a relationship very quickly after my divorce and that we have pretty significant age gaps and that he’d been married a couple of times before me.” The influencer noted, “So, if you don’t know, my husband and I are 16 years apart, and I knew him through a family friend growing up. He was so much older than me.”
As the star of their hometown, Brett caught Demi’s eye. She said, “Needless to say, I was very aware of his existence. I just thought he was so cute, like an innocent little girl crush.” The TikTok video went on to explain that their love affair was “like a movie. Everything made sense, and we just had this instant connection, instant chemistry.” Demi revealed that she was surprised by the chemistry and that she was still “mourning” her marriage. The two started dating but failed to inform production or their friends about their connection. Demi was branded a cheater, and Clare blasted Brett for “being on a date with a girl from his hometown.”
Brett had another connection to reality TV
Before marrying Demi, Brett was married to Angie Harrington. The name might ring a bell since she appeared in the first two seasons of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City. She was in and out of scenes before officially being given the title of “friend of.” Even though Angie was never a full-time housewife, she created enough drama that she could have had her own snowflake. Angie and her current husband, Chris Harrington, created a burn account on Instagram, @shahxposed. The grid page trolled Jen Shah during her fraud scandal and was a point of contention between the other women.
When Brett and Angie married, they had two sons, Rome and Cole. Their divorce was high profile in Utah County as Brett was the quarterback from Brigham Young University. In 2023, Angie told The Salt Lake Tribune, “I’ve learned not to care what people think. I had a very public divorce in Utah Valley. And my ex-husband was kind of the golden boy of Provo. So, that prepared me for reality television.” During Demi’s TikTok, she mentioned Angie: “He was so much older than me. When I was nine years old, he was married to his first wife and having babies.” Yikes.
