Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos Teases Unique Ending to Her Season

Joan Vassos, the Golden Bachelorette, has her sights set firmly on a unique goal for the end of her season on the reality TV dating show. And unlike most contestants, she’s focusing more on meeting someone she could see a future with. Not necessarily someone to propose.

It’s a different take versus most Bachelor/Bachelorette contestants. For many, the goal of finding love is coupled with the hopes of an engagement. But for this Golden Bachelorette, love doesn’t necessarily come with marriage. At least not right away.

Joan Vassos is a pragmatic Golden Bachelorette

Joan has always had a pragmatic view of reality TV. Viewers saw this when she exited the Golden Bachelor early to be with her postpartum daughter. She has her priorities set and will make decisions based on what’s important to her and to her life.

And that’s the same mindset she’s in going into her season of the Golden Bachelorette. While she is actively and openly looking for love, she’s also very aware that a proposal and an “I do” may not come after such a short time together.

Instead, she’s just looking for someone she sees herself together with in the future. “I said all along, I don’t need to leave engaged,” Joan told PEOPLE. “My goal was to leave in a committed relationship. I want to have somebody I saw a future with and that we wanted to see how it works in the real world outside of the Bachelor bubble.”

While she’s looking for a partner, Joan is also very clear about her priorities. She puts her family first and she realized that she doesn’t want to relocate from her home in Maryland for a relationship.

“I would never want to leave my family,” Joan admitted. “My kids and grandkids all live really close to me. Not being close to them would not work for me. Anyone who is a good match for me would have the same family values I have and would not want to leave their family.”

This presents a bit of a problem for potential suitors but Joan said that if they were meant to be, any potential partner would find a way to make it work.

But did she find that while on the show? We’ll have to wait to see. In the meantime, she teased that the final result of the show was “exactly what it was supposed to be.”

The Golden Bachelorette premieres Wednesday, September 18 on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
