On September 3rd, Lala Kent welcomed her second daughter, Sosa into the world. Despite having what Lala would describe as a “perfect” pregnancy, giving birth turned out to be a harrowing situation.
Now the Vanderpump Rules star is back to recording her podcast and revealed the scary scenario that went down during the birth.
Lala Kent’s labor was quick but complicated
On the latest episode of Give Them Lala, the reality veteran explained how delivering Sosa was quick. But the speed at which she arrived came with complications.
“During my second-to-last push, [my obstetrician] kind of stands up really fast, and he’s fixated on the monitor,” Lala began. “And he’s making eyes with the nurse who’s reading things to him that I clearly don’t understand ’cause I’m not a doctor. And he looks nervous.”
When Lala asked if everything was okay, her doctor responded, “Yep, I just want you to keep pushing.” What Lala didn’t know at the time was that “the [umbilical] cord was wrapped around [Sosa’s] neck a couple of times.”
“She comes out, they put her on my chest and I go to hug her. You know, embrace my baby. But the way that the nurse is acting with the baby and she’s not crying. She does one cry and then it stops,” Lala shared.
A specialist had to be called in
Lala went on to say, “For mama, it was great that she came out so quickly ’cause I didn’t have to push very many times, but with a fast birth like that, she swallowed a lot of amnionic fluid.”
At this point, Lala recalled Sosa turning “purple” and the attending nurse had to call for backup.
“They then bring in a specialist, and they’re like, ‘We want a surgeon to look at her ’cause this isn’t normal, and we got 10 milliliters of amnionic fluid out of her stomach the first time, then we got another eight, then we got another however many milliliters,” she recalled.
Given how traumatic the scene was, the mother of two was understandably upset.
“I started crying, and they were like, ‘You did nothing wrong during pregnancy; we’re just a little confused,’” said Lala. And ultimately, baby Sosa was completely “fine.”
