Former Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is taking over as the host of NBC’s newest competition show, Destination X.
In its official press release, Destination X is described as a “larger-than-life adventure competition series” that merges “fantasy with reality.” Audiences will “follow contestants as they embark on the road trip of a lifetime but have no idea of their location.” So could they actually be on a back lot somewhere in Burbank?
Sounds like fun. As long as JDM leaves his barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat at home, I’m in.
Contestants use clues to figure out their location on Destination X
The concept of Destination X brings a board game to life. “In order to win, [contestants] must figure out their mystery locations,” reads the press release. “Once they’re on the blacked-out Destination X bus, the journey transforms into a real-life game board.”
Players will face challenges embedded with “clues as to their location, along with a few misdirects to keep them guessing,” the show synopsis continues.
The first player to reach the mysterious Destination X “will be crowned the winner.” Much like in its CBS competitor, The Amazing Race, someone gets eliminated at the end of each episode. But in a twist, contestants must guess their location at the conclusion of each installment, and the person “who places an X on a map furthest from the actual location” gets a plane ticket home.
Is Jeffrey Dean Morgan the most handsome man on television?
JDM is arguably one of the most handsome men on television, despite his creepy Neagan character in The Walking Dead. NBCUniversal’s Executive VP of unscripted content, competition, and game shows, Corie Henson, said in a statement, “Jeffrey Dean Morgan embodies the mischievous international man of mystery, making him the perfect host and puppet master for this new travel adventure series. He’s dashing, charming, playful, and the ultimate travel companion!”
In his own press release, Jeffrey explained, “Destination X captivated me with its blend of travel, mystery, and gaming. I can’t wait to embark on this wild guessing game across the globe as Master of Ceremony, navigating players through challenges that test their mental and physical abilities.”
Destination X premieres midseason 2025 on NBC.
