Andy Cohen Explains His Repetitive Coughing on WWHL

What’s with Andy Cohen’s coughing on Watch What Happens Live? Well, it’s nothing he can entirely control, as viewers might’ve realized. But he recently offered up more information about his apparent ailment.

Bravo viewers know Andy as the host of WWHL, as well as the producer on several Bravo properties. His fans may know him as a loving father. His detractors might point out the many lawsuits he’s facing.

Indeed, Andy is not without his controversies and eyebrow-raising videos. Unfortunately, part of that is par for the course with the spotlight. Love him or hate him, one thing’s for sure – people can’t help but notice Andy. Hence pointing out his coughing.

Andy Cohen calls his coughing a “hereditary hack”

In a recent Instagram Live, a fan pointed out Andy’s coughing and asked if he was okay. “Everything is fine and I appreciate you asking,” he said. “I do have some kind of annoying hereditary hack. I sometimes sneeze or cough on the show and it feels so weird to see on TV. Like do other hosts do it or am I just a complete mess? Don’t answer.”

It wouldn’t be the first time fans pointed out Andy’s discomfort. On February 21, 2024, one fan tweeted how they could hear Andy “hacking all over the place.” Andy replied, “My kids got me coughing!” Andy’s superfans may recall that he’s asthmatic. Not only that, but he came down with COVID-19 back in 2020, which can cause irreversible lung issues.

Back in 2020, Bravo reported Andy’s symptoms as “a fever, tightness in my chest, a cough, very, very achy… some chills, loss of smell and appetite.” Andy described everything as “lingering.” He explained, “I’m asthmatic, but the tightness that I felt in my chest was different from the shortness of breath that I feel as an asthmatic.”

Watch What Happens Live continues nightly on Bravo.
