Heather Dubrow Reveals Why She Moved Her Family to Los Angeles

Heather Dubrow is always trying to do what’s best for her kids. And that’s why she and the family decided to move to Los Angeles. Heather and her husband Dr. Terry Dubrow feel that their children will be happier and thrive in a more inclusive environment

When Heather first started filming Real Housewives of Orange County, her children were all under 10 years old. The issues she faced then were diapers, playdates, and naps. Now, she has teenagers, three of whom have come out as part of the LGBTQIA+. The issues she faces as a mom are a bit more pressing and sometimes out of her control.

Heather Dubrow wanted to give the kids the best environment possible in Los Angeles

Heather has always supported her kids in figuring out who they are and how they identify. However, she noticed that some of the parents of her children’s friends in the OC weren’t exactly as understanding.

“You know, honestly, it’s not the kids that are the problem these days,” Heather shared with Today. “It’s the parents that are the problem.”

She added, “Kids now are fluid. First of all, they are loving. They are totally accepting. They don’t blink an eye at anything … pronouns, preferences, nothing. But it’s the parents that are so influential.”

Heather shared that things were “really hard” for her kids to thrive in Orange County. This was especially true for her youngest son, Ace.

Because of this, she was so conflicted about whether she wanted to stay in the OC, which she feels is more conservative and close-minded, or move to LA which has a more open viewpoint and a wider variety of people. She was so confused she ended up putting school deposits in both locations.

Then her daughter Kat attended a summer program for film at Northwestern and met kids who went to school in LA. After that, she told her mom she was “all in” on moving to the City of Angels and Heather’s choice became easy.

At the end of the day, she and Terry are invested in giving the kids more opportunities and potentially more empathy and compassion. She feels they’ll find this in Los Angeles.

The Real Housewives of Oranges County airs on Thursdays at 9/8c on Bravo.
