Maksim Chmerkovskiy had some choice words for Anna Delvey after her first televised dance. In a strange twist, Kelly Cutrone stepped up to the plate to defend Anna.
Even before Dancing with the Stars Season 33 aired its premiere, viewers were unsure about Anna’s DWTS casting. The idea of platforming a criminal didn’t sit right with fans and even drew criticism from other stars.
Anna tried to make the best of all of it. She even bedazzled her ankle monitor. But folks just weren’t having it. She drew a lot of ire from viewers after her first dance. However, perhaps no one’s ire was louder than Maksim’s, and Kelly wouldn’t stand for it.
Kelly Cutrone calls Maks “pathetic” for criticizing Anna
On September 23, TMZ released an article titled, “‘DWTS’ Maksim Chmerkovskiy Labels Anna Delvey A ‘S****y Dancer!’” The quote was taken from Maksim’s recent appearance on The TMZ Podcast. It didn’t take long for the article to pop on Kelly’s radar. She took to her Instagram story to criticize Maks’ take.
“I thought this said SEXY!” she wrote, in disbelief at Maksim’s true choice of words. Kelly further wrote, “Did you mean Sassy or are you so pathetic that you cannot get on a show you have to attack someone? No one cares about your opinion.” Yeesh. Anna later reposted Kelly’s words, adding, “Who’s this Maksim person? He must be poor.”
Maksim’s comments did sound weirdly bitter. Some of his takes weren’t even far off the mark. It is weird for DWTS to platform a convict over other stars who would almost certainly be willing. However, Maksim’s attack on Anna felt oddly personal, especially when calling her a sh*tty dancer. Does he have no sympathy for his past partners? Or past self for that matter?
