To many Bravo fans, David Foster is just another husband from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills who made for a nice background character. However, in reality, David is a well-known Canadian record producer and film composer. The man has won 16 Grammy Awards out of 47 nominations. The 74-year-old started his career as the keyboardist for the pop group Skylark in the early 1970s. Instead of basking on his spectacular career, I want to take a deep dive into the many wives of David Foster so as not to be confused with Henry VIII. Spoiler alert: there are no beheadings in this article.

David Foster divorced his first wife after less than ten years

David first walked down the aisle when he married B.J. Cook. His first wife was also entangled in the music business. In fact, B.J. was the vocalist in the band Skylark alongside David. But the pair had met years before that when they both were members of Ronnie Hawkins Band. After a quick meet-cute, they married in 1972 and had one daughter named Amy. Sadly, the marriage only lasted nine years. The duo filed for divorce in 1981. Recently the two got back in touch to accept a star on the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame’s StarWalk. More interesting was that B.J. was also once a showgirl at The Cave Supper Club in Vancouver before leaving to perform at the Elegant Parlour nightclub run by Tommy Chong. Both David and B.J. seem to be amicable and get along.

David Foster’s second wife enjoys her privacy

Shortly after, David moved on to his second wife, Rebecca Dyer. The two said “I do” in 1982. But the marriage didn’t last long, as the duo parted ways in 1986. Post-divorce, Rebecca chose to live a life away from the spotlight. She and David share three daughters together: Erin, Jordan, and Sara. Even though David self-admittedly didn’t see his children a lot, Rebecca seemed to hold down the nest. Erin recently posted a beautiful shout-out to her mother, writing, “My mom taught me about clean skincare, and not being sensitive about getting older (still working on that), being honest and open, and most importantly how to tell a much longer story than is ever needed. I’ve never witnessed her being jealous of someone or competitive. She goes out of her way to compliment people and tell everyone how good they look.”

David Foster has a connection to Brody Jenner

All right, all you The Hills stars, you can tune in here. In 1991, David became the stepfather of Brody Jenner and Brandon Jenner. The musician married Linda Thompson in 1991, and the marriage lasted over ten years. However, they called it quits in 2005. During his marriage to Linda, David appeared on Brody and Brandon’s shortlived reality TV series, The Princes of Malibu, which premiered in 2005 and ran for one season. At the time, there was turmoil between the children, as Erin and Sara shared via the Sibling Rivalry podcast. The Foster sisters shared, “Our dad was raising other children. He wasn’t raising us. He was raising Brandon and Brody. I was, like, dealing with my whole own emotional turmoil, which was watching my father raise other children.”

Without a doubt, David’s most well-known marriage would have to be to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid. The pair married in 2011 but divorced in 2017. It all became too much for them after nine years together and four years married. Bravo fans were able to watch their last years on the small screen, and it was obvious that not everyone was happy with the dynamic. Arguably, David was one of the hardest Real Housewives to watch. It was painfully obvious that Yolanda was devoted to him, but David rarely made time for their relationship. Recently, Erin shared with Andy Cohen that she “didn’t love” seeing her father married to Yolanda.

Erina later clarified that it was more about watching the chaos that wasn’t enjoyable for her. David has said that he will never share the real reason for the divorce. However, there are some theories and speculations about what led to the split, including lifestyle differences and travel.

David Foster lands an American Idol

Katharine McPhee is David’s fifth marriage. They tied the knot in 2019 and seem to be going strong. David first met the singer in 2006 when he served as a mentor on Katharine’s seasons of American Idol. At the time, both were married to others, but they remained friends over the years. Eventually, they sparked romance rumors in 2017. However, news recently broke that the pair were attending couples counseling. According to Life & Style magazine, a source claims that the duo has hit a rough patch. The 34-year age gap is taking a toll as “Katharine and David were eager to learn the tools they need to better communicate. They found a counselor who was recommended by friends. Now they are working hard to build a stronger relationship.”
