Hopefully, Jax Taylor’s 2025 starts off better than how this current year is going to end for him. For years, it was hard to empathize with The Valley star because he always seemed to enjoy the drama. But life just got real after it was revealed that he handed over full custody to Brittany Cartwright. Even though the former couple have claimed they are working together for a positive outcome, Bravo fans are readying themselves for a fight.
As fans are aware, a reality TV divorce rarely goes well. Viewers were given a front seat to Jax and Brittany’s demise on Season 1 of their new show. Jax was eager to open up a sports bar, even against his wife’s wishes. The two just couldn’t find solid ground, and fans were not happy to see Jax gaslight Britt over her drinking. Thankfully, Season 2 will catch viewers up on everything the media missed.
Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright file for divorce
When the news broke that Brittany had finally decided to file for divorce from Jax, no one was really surprised. Jax was known as the villain of Vanderpump Rules, thanks to his ongoing flirtations and cheating ways. So when he settled down with his Kentucky Muffin, viewers didn’t think this fairytale would last forever. Jax was repeatedly caught acting out by cameras, which included pooping with the door open and being caught in more infidelity issues after he tied the knot. The Bravo couple, who announced their separation in February, listed their date of separation as Jan. 24, 2024.
After less than five years of marriage, Brittany decided to make the separation official by filing for divorce in August. In the documents, she cited “irreconcilable differences.” At the time, she also asked for primary legal and physical custody of their son Cruz and for Jax to be granted child visitation. In the legal documents, Brittany also asked the court to block the awarding of spousal support to either her or Jax. The petition said they are still ascertaining the assets to be identified as separate and community property. Shortly after, Jax announced that he would be going into a one-month inpatient treatment facility to work on his mental health.
Jax Taylor gives full custody to Britanny Cartwright
The 45-year-old decided to give his estranged wife full legal and physical custody of their three-year-old son, Cruz. Jax chose to represent himself when he signed over his parenting rights to Cruz. Jax might also have made a snafu when filling out the document Per Bravo. While requesting a dissolution of their marriage, Jax also checked the box indicating that he and the 35-year-old were never legally married.
While at the courthouse, Jax also listed their Los Angeles home in the valley as their only asset. However, the reality TV star requested that the property be divided “at a later time.” Jax chose to file in person at the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County.
Jax Taylor messed up the custody paperwork
It turns out that Jax’s legal paperwork—handwritten and self-submitted—contained a few editing errors. It was quickly discovered that Jax had inadvertently checked the “never legally married” box. A representative for Jax noted, “While Jax made errors in filling out forms that are usually done by trained legal professionals. Those errors will be amended without delay.” The October 2nd statement didn’t specify which parts of his filing were incorrect. Still, Jax’s rep added clarity, noting, “Jax and Brittany have already long resolved all matters related to custody of Cruz and will continue to work together privately for the best interest of their son, which remains their overriding concern.”
Jax has yet to speak on the matter but took to his Instagram to share a meme on the same day he handed in the paperwork. The post read, “From October to December, your life is going to change for the better.” Brittany couldn’t hold back throwing a little shade as she commented on a fan’s account, “We are legally married. I guess paperwork is hard for some people.” Brittany added the face-hiding emoji for good measure. Even Lance Bass added, “I can confirm this. Pastor Lance signed the papers.” Let’s just hope these two can keep their tempers down and work out the best schedule for their son.
