Gizelle Bryant has always been a hard nut to crack. She is afforded respect as an OG of the Real Housewives of Potomac. So when Dr. Wendy Osefo strolled onto the scene, half of the green-eyed bandits didn’t know what to do with herself. Wendy and Gizelle’s relationship has been a source of intrigue for quite some time.
The road has been bumpy for Wendy Osefo and Gizelle Bryant
Bravo viewers knew that when Gizelle refused to hug Wendy in the Season 7 premiere, things were going to get bumpy. The two have never been buddy-buddy and Wendy chalks that up to Gizelle not knowing when to keep her mouth shut. During a Watch What Happens Live episode, the professor quipped, “Let’s be very clear: no one talks about relationships except for the fact that Gizelle constantly attacks our husbands. You can’t attack somebody if you lack that thing you’re attacking in the other person. And I was raised by a single mother, so there’s no shaming here.” Wendy was not thrilled that Gizelle brought up the blog rumors that she and Eddie Osefo were having marital issues.
The sixth season showed the two women at one another’s throats. During one episode, Wendy didn’t hold back as she laid into Gizelle for having the audacity to pass judgment on her marriage. It didn’t help that Gizelle also expressed concern for certain changes Wendy had made, including her mommy makeover. Gizelle felt that all these changes were a result of the cheating allegations against Happy Eddie. Needless to say, the two have yet to find a way back to one another’s good graces.
Did Gizelle Bryant extend an olive branch in the premiere?
Hell has frozen over. At least partially. During the Season 9 premiere of the Real Housewives of Potomac, Gizelle extended an invitation to Karen Huger’s “Hattitude” birthday extravaganza. The Grand Dame turned 61, and Gizelle wanted everyone to be in attendance. Wendy arrived in a bright orange dress and seemed willing and ready to have a serious conversation with Gizelle about their lack of friendship. Gizelle told cameras she was all about inner peace these days, especially after losing her father. In a surprising turn, she shared that she just wanted to mend the bridge and move on.
In the sneak peek for Episode 2, Gizelle invites Wendy out for a bite to eat. While at the party, Gizelle notes, “I would like for us to get to a better place. So let’s get together tomorrow so we can try to do that.” The invitation is sincere, and Wendy reciprocates. Gizelle then adds, “But until then, I’m going to give you this bucket hat, which represents where we’ve been.” The lunch starts off a bit uncomfortable, but the pair are trying as Wendy notes her feathers mean, “She’s coming with open arms.”
Wendy Osefo and Gizelle Bryant could make strides
I love that I am watching two queens sitting down to a meal to break bread. Even though Wendy is apprehensive, the two seem to be calm, cool, and collected. Wendy tells the cameras, “As I am inching closer to 40, I am open to see where this conversation goes.” After ordering an array of nibbles, Gizelle tells her frenemy, “I’m not coming to this conversation with any isms. Any nothing. I feel like what you feel I want to listen to. And hopefully, it will be reciprocated.” Already, I love the positive roads these two are trying to walk down. One way that their rocky friendship can evolve is by using better communication tools.
Gizelle is already trying to implement what she’s learned by noting, “When I think about us, I feel like when you’re fine, you’re fine. When you’re angry, I feel like you come at someone condescending, which has always been nothing I like.” Instead of throwing shade, Gizelle is being honest and open about how Wendy can make her feel. Compared to past seasons, this is a very adult way of discussing her problems. The two appear to be on the path to reconciliation. And even though turning a new leaf has raised a few eyebrows, I am personally rooting for them to succeed!
Real Housewives of Potomac is streaming on Peacock.
