Heather Gay Says RHOSLC Has Allowed Her to ‘Really Evolve’ as Both a Woman and Mother

Heather Gay is a fan favorite of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast. She endeared herself to viewers for her honesty and transparency. Life changed a lot for Heather since she left her marriage and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But she’s made the most of the RHOSLC opportunity, and it, in turn, has changed her as well.

Now, the author of the New York Times bestseller Bad Mormon is sharing exactly how much of an effect the show had on her life.

Heather Gay gushed about the “exciting time” in her life

When the show premiered in November 2020, Heather was navigating the waters of public opinion. The mother to daughters Annabelle, 21, Georgia, 18, and Ashley, 17, Heather had just broken off with the church.

She told People that being a reality star “completely changed” her.

“I’ve unburdened myself from a lot of heavy baggage I’d been carrying for years, from my life before. And it’s allowed me to really evolve, not just as a woman, but also as a mother,” Heather shared.

Life for Heather is very dynamic right now. Her new memoir, Good Time Girl, is due for publication. Beauty Lab + Laser is ever-expanding. Not only that, she debuted a new look for Season 5 of RHOSLC. In addition, the veteran Bravolebrity lost 25 pounds thanks to Ozempic.

“It’s an exciting time,” Heather told the new publication. “And I’m no fool; I know none of this would have been possible if it weren’t for Housewives.”

Despite walking away from the Mormon church in 2019, the effects of living under its constraints were harder to elude. But Heather became more comfortable with living life on her terms.

“I feel really empowered now,” she revealed. “When I first started Housewives, feminism and girl power used to make me uncomfortable because I was just from such a deeply patriarchal culture. I feel like, now, I’m totally a feminist.”

Heather and her daughters “have this new freedom”

“My relationship with my daughters has never been stronger,” Heather said of motherhood. “Before I felt bound by just the way I was raised, and the expectations of my culture and community. Now, I get to be the mom I always wanted to be. We have this new freedom.”

Heather’s daughters faced peer pressure after their mother publicly denounced the church in her book. But they’ve weathered the storm as a family.

“We’ll all four be together, the three girls and I, just enjoying each other, out loud expressing gratitude for how happy we are and how much we love our life,” she explained. “And in those moments, I just feel like it’s all worth it.”

Life is good for one Utah native. And Heather is not looking back. She made sure to give credit where it was due.

“I feel like the happiest girl on earth. All of my dreams have come true, and shattered this glass ceiling I had about where my happiness could be,” she shared. “Who could have ever expected Housewives to bring me that?”
