We’re back with the recap for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 2. Last week we met the new crew. Gary seems to have turned over a new leaf and declared his new mantra to be “work hard and work harder.” It remains to be seen whether he’ll try to balance that with “play harder.” Gary and Daisy made peace following their tumultuous Season 4 love triangle of Gary, Daisy, and Colin, while Daisy got off on the wrong foot with Chef Cloyce. Here’s exactly what went down in BDSY Season 5, Episode 2: “Tender Bender.”

What happened in Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5, Episode 2?

In this week’s episode, Gary crashes the tender into the rocks while driving at night. After struggling with dinner the first night, Chef Cloyce knocks it out of the park on night two, even surprising the guests with a little rap. And Daisy makes it crystal clear to Gary that she’s not taking any of his nonsense this season. Here are some of the highlights from BDSY Season 5, Episode 2.

Chef Cloyce struggles with dinner on the first night

On Night One, Chef mixed up the dinner orders, so some guests were slow receiving their food. Daisy admits she’s the one who put him in the “sticky situation” by allowing the guests to customize their orders. “But he is a superyacht chef,” she says. “You need to be able to adapt last minute.”

Gary takes the tender to pick up the dancer who’s coming to teach “sexy dance moves” to the guests. As he’s taking her back, despite Glenn’s warning to watch out for rocks, Gary crashes the tender. Fortunately, no one is injured.

As soon as he gets back to the boat, he reports his mishap to the captain. Glenn says, “The tender won’t sink because it’s an inflatable tender. But it could submerge the engine, and then we’re buying a new one. And that tender’s about €180,000.” Will that come out of Gary’s tips for the season?

Emma’s on anchor watch, so Glenn tells Gary to have her keep an eye on it. Gary tells her, “If you see it … sitting [lower in the water], wake me up.”

The next morning, Glenn sends Gary to take videos of the damage. “If it’s got a hole in the bottom of the hull,” Gary says, “that’s going to be the end of the season for that tender. I don’t even want to think about that.”

After looking at the video, Glenn decides the damage is mostly cosmetic. “It’s not something that’s going to impact the performance of the tender,” he says. “Gary knows better. It’s not the way we want to start our season.”

The Ibiza O Beach Club is like “Vegas times a thousand”

The guests have a booking at the famous Ibiza O Beach Club. Daisy says it’s “like Vegas times a thousand.” Lots of day drinking, and they can still be in bed by 9:00. While she’s sitting in the tender waiting to go to the club with the guests, Diana tells Gary, “Just make sure you don’t crash the boat again.” Ouch.

Danni and Diana are both accompanying the guests to the beach club. Danni immediately starts flirting with the club host Anthony, and he gets her number. Maybe they’ll meet up on a crew night out.

A couple of the guests are in the pool in their jean shorts. They ask if one of the crew could retrieve their swimwear from the boat. Did they not understand that they were going to a beach club? Why didn’t they wear their swimsuits?

Daisy echos my thoughts as she digs through their luggage looking for swimwear, “Who goes to a beach club without their swim trunks?”

Glenn tells her to wake Gary up and have him take over their swim trunks. He was in the middle of a nap, since he didn’t sleep last night. He thinks Daisy’s bossing him around and treating him like an “errand boy,” when Glenn was the one who told her to wake him up. Maybe he’s getting the vibe she’s still mad at him…

Gary and Daisy clash over her asking him to pick up her stews from the club

Danni and Diana are getting fried in the sun and wonder when the guests will want to go back to the boat. They ask one of the women when they’ll want to go back, and she says, “As late as possible.”

They’re drinking lots of shots and ordering bottles of champagne. The stews are starting to wonder if they’ll be able to get them safely back on the tender.

At last they call Daisy and let her know the guests won’t be leaving any time soon. Daisy’s okay with that, but says she’ll send a deckhand over to relieve them and they can come back to the boat.

When she asks Gary to go back and pick up the girls, he says, “No, she can wait to go until we pick the guests up. I’m not joking. I was just there.”

“Okay,” Daisy responds, not happy. “I’ll remember that one.”

“Both girls have been there for hours,” Daisy says in a confessional. “We’ve got turn-downs to do. No one has taken a break. I think it’s fair that we swap the team around … A leopard doesn’t change his spots. First chance he gets, he just shows again what a total d*ck he is … F*ck you, I’ll do it myself.”

At last Gary relents and realizes he needs to placate Daisy. He asks if he should go get “one of the girls,” but Daisy tells him she wants him to pick up “both of the girls” and swap them out with a deck crew member. She needs them back on the boat to do their jobs.

Chef Cloyce is a self-proclaimed Renaissance man

Finally, at 7:00 pm, the guests are ready to return to the boat. They’ve got to be wiped out from drinking in the sun all day. I think they’re gonna go back and take a nap. Poor Cloyce is planning a Thai dinner that they’re going to be too drunk to eat.

When they return to the boat, one of the women actually falls flat on her face as she’s getting out of the tender. They’re all wasted.

Dinner was originally supposed to be at 8:00, but it keeps getting pushed back. At last, all guests are seated at the table at 9:00. Chef is worried that his proteins will be overcooked, and his rice will be gummy. Maybe they’re all too drunk to notice? Fortunately, they all think his food is “phenomenal.”

One of the guests wants the chef to have a shot with them. “With the captain’s permission, we can do anything,” he tells them before asking Glenn’s okay.

When he serves their Japanese whiskey shots, Cloyce surprises the guests with a rap. Daisy’s impressed. “I love it,” she laughs. “I did not think Cloyce was a hidden Eminem.”

The guests also love him and declare, “Chef’s dope as f*ck!”

“Cooking is not the whole Cloyce package,” he interviews. “I consider myself to be a Renaissance man. I’m skilled at poetry and archery and dancing and a little bit of magic. Even when absolutely nothing is going according to plan, I’ve still always got an ace up my sleeve,” he finishes, pulling the Ace of Clubs out of his pocket. That was slick.

Daisy gives Gary a serious warning about his future behavior

Getting ready for their first night out, the crew is getting all dolled up. Danni gets a text from her beach club boyfriend Anthony, but she isn’t sure she wants to get involved. “There are just so many fish in the sea,” she says.

While hanging out with the guys, Cloyce observes, “Daisy would make a very good wife.” When Gary laughs, Chef adds, “She’s organized. She runs a tight ship, and I love it when a lady tells you how it’s going to be.”

Gary interviews, “I think she’d eat him alive.”

But when Daisy invites Gary for a smoke break, she tells him, “I highly recommend you get your head in the game … You f*cked me over … Just warning you, don’t f*ck up.”

She continues, “I’m not babysitting you this year … I’ve always had your f*cking back, and you threw me under the bus. I’m just preparing you. I will throw you so f*cking far under the bus this year. You’re not in my corner.”

Gary’s surprised at Daisy’s attitude. “All I have for Daisy is love,” he says in a confessional. “And she’s making it harder for me. Yet I still have these feelings for her.”

“I’m letting you know,” Daisy adds, “that this season, you’re either in my corner or you’re not, [and] I’m not sitting back anymore. I’m f*cking done.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.
